I just got home from watching The Odyssey.
A year ago, my one worry about Nolan’s adaptation was that “defy the gods” marketing tagline. Homer’s poem was not about defiance. It’s about a man who breaks a sacred law and spends the rest of his life answering for it. If the film didn’t capture that, I’d say so.
I’m thrilled to report that Nolan understood the assignment. This is fundamentally a film in which men are answerable to an order they did not author and cannot escape, and violating it costs them everything. Few modern films carry that kind of metaphysical weight anymore, and it was a genuine pleasure to see those values dramatized on screen.
The scale invites comparisons with Lean’s masterpieces, and the performances from Damon, Hathaway, Pattinson, and Leguizamo are superb. A few choices in the sound mix and photography occasionally threw me off, but never enough to sink the experience.
In short, this is a magnificent epic that respects Homer’s moral universe. It’s a film any conservative serious about cultural inheritance ought to appreciate. Those who spent months denouncing it as “woke” were reviewing the tweets they read, not the actual film, and they’ve told you precisely how much to trust them on everything else.

This man is a true American patriot.
Patriotism is not waving a flag while masked government agents racially profile and indiscriminately seize Latino workers. It is understanding the Constitution, defending equal protection, and fighting for “liberty and justice for all.”
He confronted ICE and alerted his neighbors. Together, they drove the agents away. No warrant. No court order. Just an attempted drive-by, racist abduction of good, legal, law-abiding, hardworking people.
Know your rights. Stand with your neighbors. Use PAXIS.app to prepare for and respond to ICE encounters legally and constitutionally. Help keep it free: GoFundMe.com/PAXIS

The incident at the Las Vegas Airport is yet another example of why ICE needs real accountability.
No one should be tackled to the ground by individuals wearing masks and hoods and only be told afterward that they are law enforcement. That undermines public trust, creates confusion, and puts everyone at risk.
ICE officers should be required to wear identifiable uniforms, body cameras, and clearly display their law enforcement identification. State and local law enforcement are expected to meet these basic requirements. ICE should be no exception.

Newport, KY To Remove Flock Cameras, End Pilot Program
---------------------
The city of Newport is ending its Flock pilot program and will remove the cameras from the city and not move forward with purchasing the technology.
A factor in the city’s decision to end the Flock pilot was a U.S. Supreme Court case that the city had been monitoring.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 29 in Chatrie v. United States, which concerned digital location information and Fourth Amendment privacy protections.
The court reaffirmed that collecting detailed location-history information is subject to the Fourth Amendment, meaning law enforcement generally must obtain a warrant supported by probable cause before accessing it.
With that court decision, along with public feedback and input from the board of commissioners and from the police department, Steffen said the city thought it best to take a step back and reevaluate.
The city said that the discussion raised important questions about privacy, transparency, data retention, oversight and constitutional protections.
As new technologies become available, the city said it will continue to evaluate them.

🚨MIGRANT INSIDER CONFIRMS:
Federal immigration agents are ordered to suspend vehicular stops nationwide as of noon ET today after ICE killings of motorists in Texas and Maine.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller “vehemently opposed” the change but to no avail.

Just asked DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin if there was any truth to Walter’s tweet below. “We are always evaluating our procedures to keep our officers safe and criminals off our streets,” he replied, adding: “We will not disclose or discuss law enforcement tactics.” So not a no.
