America launched a war on Iran, the war continues, and yet the US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent has said: “in the coming days, we may unsanction the Iranian oil that’s on the water.” According to Bloomberg, Bessent told Fox Business that Iran has about 140 million barrels afloat and “depending on how you count it, that’s 10 days to two weeks of supply.” So Trump won’t negotiate with Iran to end the war but he will allow them to sell their oil. @AuthorRoyA @PhillipsPOBrien that is true but for many years America did not want a resurgent Europe, it wanted a compliant partner and preferred to keep europe weaker, it was only when some countries (germany, spain++) had close to zero military and the cost of GW2 and Afghan it became a spending issue.

@PhillipsPOBrien You can criticize the tone, but there’s a kernel of truth. The U.S. does carry more of the burden and allies don’t always follow. But saying NATO is useless or that the U.S. “doesn’t need anyone” ignores the real strategic value of alliances.
