This is gobsmacking. Not only did Melania Trump suddenly decide to give a televised address about Jeffrey Epstein, she's calling on Congress to "act," because Epstein was "not alone." So she just threw a giant stick of political dynamite on the issue her husband despises!

Was asked in Belfast last night the difference between the city in 1998 and now. I said then it felt permanently on edge and dangerous. Now it feels like a modern European capital city. The wonderful ⁦⁦@Waterfront_Hall⁩ a symbol of that.

Ireland doesn't have an antisemitism problem... Another incident from the past couple of days, my father-in-law was attempting to buy a car. He saw one through an online marketplace, and attempted to make contact with the seller. He was immediately blocked, but thought it an error. So he asked a friend to make contact with the seller on his behalf. This friend had an Irish name, and had no issues making contact. When they spoke on the phone, the friend said he was actually making contact on behalf of someone else. The seller responded: "Is it that Epstein fella? I don't sell to Jews, especially ones with names like that." When antisemitism goes unchecked for so long, it becomes so pervasive it's hard to know when and where it will rear it's head next.

Hello, all. An important post. Please read this document. This is what institutional antisemitism looks like. In Dublin, there is a park named Herzog Park. It is named after Chaim Herzog (1918-1997), an Irish-Israeli man, born in Belfast and raised in Dublin, who went on to be Israel’s 6th President. Chaim was the son of Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog, who was Chief Rabbi of Ireland and Israel’s first Chief Rabbi. He was a firm friend of Eamon De Valera, Ireland’s most famous political leader, and strongly supported the Irish Republican cause during our War of Independence. Dublin City Council has made an antisemitic decision to change the name of Herzog park, a blatant attempt to erase Irish-Jewish history. Last year, I wrote in the Irish Times: ‘now that the Jewish population in Ireland has been reduced to the smallest fragment, my great fear is that in 20 years it will be reduced to nothing at all: due to this lack of welcome in a land that purports to offer a thousand of them. Irish people will follow the well-paved path of the citizens of so many nations before them: walking through quarters where the whisper of Jewish memory lingers, a memory that may, over time, also be erased.’ This erasure has not come gradually over 20 years as I anticipated. No—it has come a mere 1 year later, purposefully and maliciously by Ireland’s political class. Ireland is an institutionally antisemitic country. To deny it in the face of such overwhelming evidence is pure folly.

There is a cruel irony that the side which falsely accuses the Jewish State of ethnic-cleansing, is very quick to eradicate Jewish history and heritage. What message does this disgusting decision to dename Herzog Park send? That Jewish history has no place in modern, compassionate Ireland? And, as if to deliberately insult the Jewish community of Ireland, to consider renaming it Gaza or Palestine Park. We are continually told there is no antisemitism in Ireland. That Holocaust Memorial Day being used as a platform by a bigoted President meant nothing... That the the first acts of physical violence in a generation don't count... That the slurs, the incitement and the gaslighting don't mean what every right-thinking person would take it to mean... The Herzog family are a part of Irish history - this motion is about erasing that history and the heritage of the Jewish community in Ireland which does not receive the approval of the Palestinian/Hamas cause. A dark day indeed - but then again for Jews and Israelis in Ireland, when isn't? 🇮🇪🇮🇱

Dublin City Council’s move to strip my grandfather’s name from Herzog Park is deeply troubling. Chaim Herzog was born in Belfast, attended school in Dublin & fought the Nazis as an Irishman. Irish Jewish history is part of Ireland’s history. Protect it. #HandsOffHerzogPark

We stand firmly with the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland in the face of the deeply troubling proposal to remove the name of Herzog Park in Dublin. This attempt to erase the legacy of President Chaim Herzog, a proud Irishman whose life story is interwoven with Ireland’s own history, is not a neutral or administrative act. It targets one of the few visible markers of Jewish contribution to Irish society and does so at a moment when Jewish communities across Europe are experiencing unprecedented levels of hostility and insecurity. To single out an Irish-Jewish figure for removal from the public space sends an unmistakably harmful message: that Jewish heritage is conditional, vulnerable and disposable. It risks isolating a small community that has been part of Ireland for generations and undermines the sense of belonging that every minority must be guaranteed. Chaim Herzog’s legacy is not political symbolism. It embodies the story of a Dublin schoolboy who became President of Israel while carrying Ireland with him throughout his life. His family’s service to Ireland, including his father’s role as Chief Rabbi and his deep friendships with national leaders, is part of the fabric of Irish history. Public spaces must honour the diversity of a nation’s past, not erase figures whose identity or connections certain groups now object to. We call on Dublin City Councillors to reject this motion and to send a clear message that Jewish history is Irish history and that attempts to marginalise or diminish it have no place in a democratic society. The EJC will continue to support and stand alongside Ireland’s Jewish community at this critical moment.

I completely oppose plans to rename Herzog Park. It is wrong. We are an inclusive Republic. This proposal is offensive to that principle. I urge all Party Leaders to join me in opposition to this. I agree with the statement from ⁦⁦@HMcEnteegov.ie/en/department-…
