Company law amendment bill sent to JPC having very different point of view as compared to MCA meetings with large firms. They need to understand that audit is profession and non-audit is business. Statutory bodies are for profession and not business. Non-audit is never regulated, it’s a person who wants to do both who will certainly be regulated. On the other side, CS & CWA, with due respect, will overshadow if MDP is made because there is a complete distinction between their roles and responsibilities, and no professional will allow entry into each other’s domain if related to attest function. For non-audit in any of these professions, it was never an issue. Government is touching unnecessary things which, according to me, will have zero outcome because they themselves are contradictory. They need to amend the professional Acts, and they are amending the Companies Act. They are not consulting the stakeholders, etc. The intent is good, but I can tell you even the people behind MCA or IICA or NFRA are borne out of ICAI, so whatever they will do, it will always give the same smell, whatever name you may call it. Nobody is taking about Lawyers bcs they come under the federal structure & they are under the state list. There can be MRA between all the three institutions and then recognition can be given but then also, one can have one COP at a time and so the issue will not be resolved. I would say if IIA comes or a new regulatory body comes, even then the issue will not be resolved; it will rather become more complicated. I think the media is confused, and even those behind the changes are also confused. The fundamental and technical questions are not being addressed. If anyone touches the foundation of a building, it is known to all that the whole building will fall. So let’s see who touches the foundation and who will be responsible. We will certainly explain our position to the concerned persons at the relevant point of time.
