I am seeking the mandate of the people for the sixth time as the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Haripad constituency. This Assembly election before us is a crucial moment for both the state and its people. After ten years of a government that has brought Kerala to a standstill, this election gives us a golden opportunity to vote them out of power. Backdoor appointments, corruption, lack of development, a breakdown in law and order, divisive politics that fuels communalism, and an economy burdened by debt and instability—all stand before us as serious concerns. This election is the first step towards ushering in a new era by bringing to power a people-centric, development-oriented government led by the UDF. We must reclaim the years we have lost and restore momentum to our stalled development journey. For this, it is essential that UDF candidates are elected with a strong mandate. Haripad and its people are a part of my heart. This land has shaped and nurtured the public servant in me. Today, Haripad stands as a model of development for the state and the nation, which fills me with immense pride and satisfaction. In the elections of 1982, 1987, 2011, 2016, and 2021, the people of this land have blessed me with resounding victories. The love, affection, and sense of security I receive from the people of Haripad is like that of a child resting in its mother’s embrace. I am confident that this care and support will always remain with me. In this Assembly election, the UDF will hoist the flag of victory. A UDF government will come to power, and together, we are stepping forward to make it happen. Kerala will win. UDF will lead.

Kochi, Kerala: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala says, "Why is the government not clarifying its stance regarding the entry of women into Sabarimala? There is a lack of transparency from the government's side on this issue. The ambiguity in their position is intended for political gain. The government should address the concerns of the devotees."

I am happy to inform that the government has granted approval for a ₹500 crore coastal protection project in Thrikunnapuzha and Arattupuzha panchayats in my constituency Haripad with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project will be implemented as part of the Kerala Sustainable Coastal Protection and Climate Planning initiative. An ADB team had visited the erosion hotspots in Arattupuzha and Thrikunnapuzha panchayats on 29-12-2024. During the visit, I brought to their attention the unique circumstances of these areas, the severe challenges faced by the people due to continuous sea erosion, and the damage caused to their livelihoods. I also held a follow-up meeting with the ADB team at the Secretariat. Based on these interventions, the project has now received approval. I believe this initiative will help address the serious issues caused by coastal erosion across Thrikunnapuzha and Arattupuzha.

When the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on women’s entry into Sabarimala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan moved ahead with determined efforts to facilitate the entry of women. Ignoring the sentiments of millions of devotees of Lord Ayyappa across the world, the government deployed the police and ensured that a few women were taken to Sannidhanam. At that time, the Chief Minister showed complete disregard for arguments about protecting traditions and safeguarding faith. With the government on one side and so-called “opportunists” on the other, Kerala was pushed for days into a situation of intense conflict and social division. Behind all this was the Chief Minister’s political strategy to exploit the Sabarimala issue for political gain. However, with the Assembly elections approaching now, the fear of losing power seems to have gripped both the Chief Minister and his party. Suddenly, the concerns of devotees and the need to protect faith and traditions have come back into focus. After ten years, this so-called realization is clearly driven by electoral calculations and the pursuit of votes—something every Malayali can easily understand. The government’s decision to submit a new affidavit in the Supreme Court, replacing its earlier stand on women’s entry with a position supporting the protection of temple traditions, is a result of this very fear. Before submitting this new affidavit, Pinarayi Vijayan must publicly apologise to Ayyappa devotees and believers. He should also openly admit that it was irresponsible to label the then Opposition, which stood for protecting traditions, as regressive. The Navothana Samithi formed in the name of this issue should also be dissolved. People clearly understand that this sudden change in stance is purely for votes. In the upcoming election, the people of Kerala will give their response.

The Chief Minister must apologise to the people of Kerala for the affidavit his government has filed in the Supreme Court of India opposing women’s entry into Sabarimala Temple. This marks a clear U-turn. The Pinarayi Vijayan Government had earlier strongly backed women’s entry into the sacred shrine and even facilitated the entry of two women devotees. Such contradictory positions demand an apology to the people of Kerala.
