Whenever the Feds talk about storing health records or encryption keys, remember that the NSA can't even protect their best tools.

Gents, everything is about credible (costly) signals. Women don’t just want a provider, they want loyalty, sacrifice, strength. Build up your “resume” on those variables. It’s not all about career/bank. Not for the good women who will go the distance with you.

@YIMBYLAND That's wild.. prior to covid, I was in SF all the time and stayed in both the Union Square Hilton & Parc 55 and then saw Endgame at Westfield Mall, I think in that Cinemark.

This is how a civilization collapses. It’s like tragedy of the commons except, the left decides that everything is the commons, including private property. The inevitable result of enabling petty crime is full scale commercial retreat and ultimately urban decay. Just ask SF.

@HeritageIndiana @JoyPullmann talked about that last year, though her estimate was ~$2B for edu alone Throw in public safety, medicaid, and other benefits and I'd bet you'd have a HUGE surplus x.com/CaseySoftware/…
Danger Casey@CaseySoftware

@JoyPullmann Curious: Any idea of what the associated public safety, medicaid, etc costs are? I suspect that you could get a budget surplus.. And not in State budgets, in TX- 1/3 of my car insurance is for uninsured drivers.. no clue what Hoosiers are dealing with

@patio11 Yes, 100% I've been pointing Claude at internal resources with some guidance around "anything less than 6 months old is fine, warn about older, reference but exclude anything older than 2 years" and then require citations to everything Gold.

An anecdote for you from LLM land: I sent Opus 4.7 out to do a literature survey of various government law enforcement internal guidelines w/r/t AML and KYC usage in prosecutions. It was much more successful at finding these docs than I would have expected. I then told it:

@ShamashAran Sounds right. I get mine for $80-105, depending on coupons, discounts, etc. While I'm pretty sure I could do it, I'm happy to pay the $20-40 premium to let someone else do it quicker with the right tools while they check a half dozen other things

If you're using synthetic oil (and you SHOULD BE) Assuming an average 4cyl car that takes ~5 quarts of oil: 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic 0w16 is about $40. Oil filters can be about $10 So your oil change costs $50 in parts alone. So you can do the oil change yourself for half the price. Back when i worked at an oil change shop, I made $20/hr. lets be really nice and say it takes 30 mins to change your oil, so another $10 for labor (this is overestimating, to be clear) so at the top end, in costs alone it costs $60 That's the absolute FLOOR of what an oil change should cost, and nobody makes much if any money doing it.
✨localchaos✨@localchaos_

Are oil changes supposed to be $100 or is that bc im a woman

@supertrucker @uncledoomer In 2000-2001, I had a 3 bedroom apartment in Terre Haute for $615/month. Two roommates and little furniture.. and I was still broke. Same place is $1245 now. Simpler times.

Bingoes a letter I wrote to a U.S. credit reporting agency in early 2000s disputing inaccurate information on my credit report. (I redacted all names and account numbers prior to submitting to API.) (I would not, of course, do this eval with docs I wrote on behalf of others.)

FYI, I casually tried to reproduce this on three writing samples from many years ago, which I do not believe to be on the public Internet and which were varying subjective difficulty levels. Opus 4.7 went 1 for 3 with ~no effort in the prompt (~two sentences long).

@andybrohard Both can be true. But also consider that when you pay someone to identify racist organizations, they find more than if you don't pay them. And that is what has been happening with SPLC. So it might be a measurement incentive issue too.

Crazy, isn't it? He just used the most basic common sense, it's not like he made some special prediction that was specific to the SPLC. I remember him saying something similar about hiring exterminators to check your house for bugs -- if they get paid more for finding bugs, THEY WILL FIND BUGS. So much basic common sense.

@RobProvince There was a brief window when they had two former governors in prison at the same time. I pitched a network on a buddy comedy at the time: x.com/CaseySoftware/…
Danger Casey@CaseySoftware

@RobertMSterling I once wrote a treatment for a buddy comedy featuring George Ryan and Blago sharing a prison cell where they'd have hijinx and then write to their friends Doogie Howser style. I called it Pen Pals It didn't land :(

sok🧃@pudelkonasok

@RobProvince lmao, Illinois used a bipartisan commission for those maps and they were historically balanced with a few competetive districts, so again, why not show the Illinois maps using the census data for the REDMAP program instead of one from 10 years later?
