@WireCatholic 2/ Deciding to ignore the 1955 Holy Week changes stems from the “spirit of LeFevbreism” (note it’s from “the 9” who do this) in which they decide what is “tradition” and what is not. Either Pope Pius XII was the Pope, or he was not. They give Bugnini too much credit in this case.

How to explain the position of those who reject the Pius XII Holy Week? Here is my Reply: Answer coming from Fr. Zepeda who upholds the Holy Week of Pius XII, but I think I can explain the opposite side honestly: What they say is that due to the changes of Vatican II, which (they believe) were closely connected with the reform of the Holy Week, one might presume that the legislator would have preferred to override those changes, "if he knew" where they would lead. To support that, they speak of the participation of Bugnini in it, and a few similarities between the New Holy Week and the Novus Ordo. The opposite view (ours) is that the Holy Week does not contain any change that substantially resembles the Novus Ordo. Most of the changes that resemble the Novus Ordo are quite accidental and unimportant. We hold that the Holy Week can and should be kept, since its protected as a Secondary Object of Infallibility, and its good and Holy in its disciplines. We support that notion on that it has never been the practice of a Pope (and it is unprecedented) to wholesale reject a liturgical reform enacted to the whole of the church, and that the safest interpretation of the law is the letter of it, when it is possible to keep it. As it is in this case. Me personally, I say let everyone remain doing what they have been doing. I think that after so many years of these liturgies being followed, the mind of the Church is Not to disturb the peace of the faithful... but it is IMPERATIVE that they stop demonizing and criticizing the Holy Week of Pius XII. There is an actual excommunication for those who do such things, in normal times.
