@teachbk @readmoreyall Not true in every NY district. In my district, our HEDI scores included student tests. I taught HS so my evaluation was based on the Regents exam. At one point it was based on SLOs. Pay not affected but may end up on TIPS, teacher training.

@readmoreyall In NY schools can choose which tests will be used to measure student learning and teachers are rated on that, not on the state tests.

I'm genuinely curious to know where/when teachers are impacted by their students' state test scores. My students take the test every year and I may or may not even find out how they did.

@RepJasmine Thank you for breaking it down. All are threats to the clean air/water our flora/fauna. I remember the smog in the 70’s, and environmental disasters and Superfund clean up. It’s less expensive to protect the environ than clean it. Clean up most assuredly payed by the taxpayer.

@MoriartyHistory @TeachMrReed This was my thought as well. To let a student know you support them and believe in them and their future is priceless. Admin that questions your intentions needs to work on their relationships with their staff. They don’t seen to have a sense of you as a teacher/mentor.

@TeachMrReed Or, maybe, just maybe, there’s a relationship that’s been built and the kid is thrilled you expressed more than cursory fake interest and suggested you would happily entrust them to cut your very own hair. Maybe it could come off as supportive and buying in to their dream.

Got informally observed. Students were giving presentations. One Latino student said, “I want to be a barber one day.” I replied, “That’s dope! Do you know how to cut Black hair?” He responded, “Not really.” I then said, “Gotta get on that, bro. I’d definitely be a customer.”
