“Many senators I know would not be able to breathe without that job. It would kill them to leave,” says Scott Pelley. “I don't want what you said to be true. But I fear that that is true. And that is a sign of a much, much deeper problem,” responds former Sen. Ben Sasse. cbsn.ws/48UGcY4

I know many of you are still processing what happened last night. Thank you to the USSS and all the law enforcement agencies who kept us safe. We are so grateful. To the members of the WHCA, we will get through this together:

This is Mo -- Mohaimen Aljasheme. A C-SPAN photog. This picture was taken moments before the dinner started. Mo never stopped shooting video from inside the Hilton ballroom -- first showing President Trump and then the audience. Mo is a veteran photographer from the Iraq War.

We’re so proud of our @weijia — showing grace, poise, and calm strength under just terrible circumstances. Grateful she’s our @whca president, grateful for her leadership, especially for those of us in the confusion and chaos of the ballroom last night. She is outstanding.

WATCH: From our @cbsnews Special Report, @weijia describes what she saw from the front of the ballroom alongside President Trump @POTUS - and what we didn't see behind the scenes.

🚨 BREAKING: Investigators found writings in the WHCA suspected shooter's hotel room and are reviewing the written materials as part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement and White House officials told @CBSNews. The suspect’s writings clearly stated he wanted to target administration officials, the sources say. But the writings didn't specifically mention the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, I'm told. Authorities also found anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric on his social media accounts. cbsnews.com/amp/live-updat…

CBS News' @weijia, who is the president of the White House Correspondents' Association, asked President Trump about how he was feeling as he was forced to the ground by Secret Service agents. "I was watching to see what was happening," he said, adding that first lady Melania Trump was "very cognizant" of what was going on. "We very much wanted to continue, because I don't like to let these sick people, these thugs, these horrible, horrible people change the fabric of our lives, change the course of what we do," the president continued.

In 2024, Catholic voters helped deliver Bucks County to President Trump, marking the first time in 36 years that a Republican presidential candidate carried the county and helping him win statewide. But the Iran war, Pope Leo XIV's biting criticisms of it and, in turn, Mr. Trump's attacks on the pope have many Catholics in Bucks County watching closely in a midterm year per @cbszak cbsnews.com/news/pope-trum…
