“To me Marlowe is the American mind; a heavy portion of rugged realism, a dash of good hard vulgarity, a strong overtone of strident wit, an equally strong undertone of pure sentimentalism, an ocean of slang, and an utterly unexpected range of sensitivity” - Raymond Chandler

Secretary of State Marco Rubio just dropped a truth bomb: "If Europe won’t allow us to use the bases we man and fund for their defense when we need them, we ought to close them down and remove our troops from Europe!" We’ve been Europe’s bodyguard, landlord, and ATM for 80 years while they trash America and live rent-free off our military. No more freeloading. Time to pay the rent… or we’re changing the locks. What's your response to this......??👀 Do you firmly support Marco Rubio on this? A. Huge Yes B. No IF Yes, Give me a THUMBS-UP👍!! MAKE THIS GO VIRAL ON 𝕏. LET’S GO 👏

How is the rhetoric different than: “This is the most important election of our liretine” said by every candidate in my life Biden must be elected “to save democracy” If Trump wins “there may be no more elections” Or my new favorite, Jacob Sullim saying Trump using hyperbole like ever politician of the last 100 years is evidence of “narcissistic authoritarianism” Stick with “No Kings”, Jacob; it’s much easier to put on a protest sign than “No Nacissistic Authoritarians”

Unless people support me, Trump habitually warns, "we won't have a country anymore"—a rhetorical tic that reflects his narcissistic authoritarianism. reason.com/2026/03/31/unl…

@brithume I disagree. If the enriched nuclear material is not surrendered by Iran and if the underground nuclear facilities are not destroyed, the Iranian mission is a failure. That is the standard by which this must be judged.

NATO is a great example of something that was completely necessary and completely successful in its mission. It’s also a great example of how American bureaucrats will never quit, never retire any “government program”, even when it no longer serves a purpose. It’s become a very expensive museum piece.

This is why education is important... To think people like this, with such a skewed perception of reality exist and walk among us is seriously disturbing.

Section 1 of The 14th Amendment was written to deal with slavery. People brought here against their will, enslaved, and living in many cases for generations in the United States. The 14th Amendment applies to that group of people. It had to be an Amendment to solve the problem of citizenship for former slaves once and for all. It doesn’t apply to any other person in the world then or now. It’s that simple. It was written to prohibit states from playing games with freed slaves. The radical interpretation of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment was the dishonest application of an amendment written for former slaves to immigration policy. Returning to the original intent of the amendment is not radical at all; it’s just honest.

Passover is a national liberation holiday for the Jews. In my family, it’s also a personal one. Every year at the Seder, my erudite, academic (long winded!) Zeida would pass the reins to my grandmother, Masha, when we got to the part in the Haggadah - “avadim hayinu” - we were slaves in Egypt. And every year, she would tell us of her own personal journey from slavery to freedom. Masha, born in Lithuania, had her education interrupted first by Soviet occupation and oppression, and then by the Nazis. Over 95 percent of Lithuania’s Jews would be murdered during the Holocaust, including Masha’s father, Sholem. But Masha survived with her mother (for whom I am named), and her sister, who is still alive, and celebrating Passover this year in Mexico City. Masha’s time as a slave would span several countries. It included: forced labor in a Nazi ammunition factory (where she quietly sabotaged munitions, risking her own life), death marches, cattle trains, and finally, her last stop: the notorious Nazi concentration camp of Bergen Belsen. Of her liberators, the British army, she would tell me that when the first tank came in, a soldier got out, looked at the skeletal women in front of him, looked at the piles of bodies on the ground - some still moving, and began to weep. “He had come from the fight, he had come from the struggle. But he had never see anything like Bergen Belsen.” A week or two before liberation, which was on April 15, 1945, was Passover. The Jews of Belsen sat in their barracks and tried to sing whatever they could recall from memory of the Seder. There were many bitter ironies - “let all who are hungry come and eat” - but they were so hungry. One of the rabbis at Belsen made a special blessing: on Passover we are forbidden from eating bread. But there was no matzah. And some days, a slice of bread was all the Jews had to eat. He made a new blessing that apologized to god for eating bread on Passover, but also reasoned with god: you commanded us to LIVE by your mitzvot. To live, not to die. In order to do so, we must eat this bread. The most bitter irony at the Seder came during the singing of “avadim Hayinu” - we were slaves, but now we are free. It was too much for most. But my grandmother and her mother and sister stayed seated and sang and prayed that one day, like the Jews of Egypt, they do would be liberated. That the words “from slavery to freedom” would be something they could celebrate once again. A short time later, Belsen was liberated. My grandmother went on to complete high school, college, and earn a masters in Jewish history; authored two books, hundreds of articles, and lectured before tens of thousands of people. She died on October 7, 2024. I was privileged to be next to her. She was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a great great grandmother. Tell your children this story.

I believe it is an ethical problem. When I was in the military we were taught to always avoid politics. I served under 5 presidents from both parties. Furthermore, i served the American people who come from all over the political spectrum. The ethic was no politics in uniform. Teachers have the opposite ethics. They are taught by college professors, by their union, by politicians, by education activists, by other teachers the following: You must be an activist Because the teaching profession was captured by the political left more than 50 years ago, the activism is always left. Teachers learn that activism against leftist ideology will get you isolated or fired It’s a terrible ethic / in fact, i’d call it a lack of ethics New Hampshire needs a new, and real, ethical standard for teachers. (America needs it too) It’s not ethical to push political opinions in schools / from any perspective, right or left. It will take decades to bring back such a standard.

@NewswirePatriot She definitely should be impeached; she should also be sued by the family; and lastly, the legislature should pass a law with a list of crimes that do not get offered bail.

A multitude of flags in office windows isn’t a sign of a divided campus. It’s a sign of a vibrant community where people can express their views. FIRE demands @BU_tweets stop ordering faculty to remove their flags. fire.org/research-learn…

Boston University administrators are ordering faculty to remove flags from their office windows. One professor came to campus to find a university employee had entered her office and taken down her LGBT Pride flags, with a note saying outward-facing displays aren’t allowed.

@bubbabeeni60799 @BethanyCherisse Yes - you are part of a tiny fraction who sees everything clearly. Somehow you have unlocked the ability to see! Everyone else is blind. But don’t call it elite - never do that.

@ccheetham83 @BethanyCherisse It's not about elite thinking. It's about using your eyes and ears. It's about history. Everything that we have ever seen time and time again.

I love telling people I am from the USA, you ran into a demoralized person. I had that happen to me in Portugal. I had taken a boat trip off the coast. Afterward, i was talking to the boat captain about how great the Portuguese naval history is and was asking about museums on the subject. He became downcast and said Portugal’s history is a dark one because the naval power was used to colonize. He couldn’t see anything positive about portuguese naval history.
