One ‘correction’ for the pedantic among you. Technically a queen is not a queen at this stage but rather a gyne - a female capable of becoming a reproductive queen. On starting a nest she becomes a foundress. Only when her offspring hatch does she become a bona fide queen! 15/15

The Pictish Beast appears on countless Pictish stones - but just what is it? As a culture who were able to carve boars, horses, and serpents in intricate detail onto stone, it seems unrealistic that the Pictish Beast is just a poorly rendered horse🐴 What do you think? #folklore

By proving they had good teeth-brushing habits, children could earn a Happy Smile badge. In the first wave of the campaign, 90% of children aged 5 to 11 in south-east Scotland won their badge.

@ScottishGraves @FOWarristonCem Did you notice his dog on the back of the monument? His wife was from Skye so they kept Skye terriers to remind her of home.

Day 59 of a year of #RandomScottishGravestones 🪦 The trees at Warriston in Edinburgh are doing all they can to envelop the graves of everyone residing within, including this Victorian artist Horatio McCulloch's. All power to @FOWarristonCem for trying to maintain some balance!
