@camhigby The fourth amendment is a silly piece of paper that does not comprehensively address the natural naturally occurring human right to privacy. The data is retained, abused, and provides no avenue to remove consent.

Flock cameras do not violate the 4th amendment. Looking at things in public view is not a search, nor do you have a right to privacy from it. It’s literally the entire basis for establishing probable cause.

Last year during an interview, I made a mistake by referring to people in the DeFlock group as terrorists. I was wrong to say that, and I should have cleared this up a long time ago. That's my fault. Around the time of the interview, I was hearing reports of ALPR-avoidance apps being used (on occasion) for serious crime avoidance, and I conflated that with legitimate criticism. Being concerned about your privacy or how your local law enforcement agency conducts its operations isn’t terrorism, it’s American. DeFlock is not a terrorist organization, it’s an open source project that has gained popularity primarily due to our inadequate response to the questions and concerns that people have about ALPR.  Over the last 8 years, nearly 7,000 towns, cities and counties in America have purchased our ALPR cameras. While these cameras have done a tremendous amount of good in those communities, the recent awareness surrounding their existence has also spiked a fair share of criticism. I think we have failed to answer these questions and concerns at scale, and we are going to do a better job of that moving forward. I know @Rahul has banked a bunch of questions from X last week for us to answer, but feel free to reply with more here. He and I are going to do our best to catch up on these and answer them.

Multiple towns in Connecticut are permanently removing Flock cameras from their neighborhoods after a massive backlash over privacy concerns. A FOIA request revealed that, in just one town, third parties accessed camera data more than 500,000 times in only nine weeks. "Flock Safety could not guarantee that it's not sharing information with federal agencies."

The underlying question is consent. Does Bronin have the legal ability and moral right to override minorities? Legal ability, yes. Statute allows him to pick individual and groups of winners and losers, and use force directly or via Delegated Agency against even peaceful people who would remove their consent. Regardless of underlying morality, he (and we) can observe a clear reality playing out on every scale of government that dismisses just power: Initiating violence and diminishing wealth by force or fraud reduces happiness, harmony, and prosperity.
