@TornadoLegend44 @JohnCochtoseton All states give 10 month contracts- you are paid per day. That said you can bank you pay so it’s spread out over 12 months but you’re still only paired for 190 days of work or whatever your district contracts

@SpunkyPatriot_ As a certified educator surely you know that they had to take time off to protest and we’re not just given a day with pay right?

As a highly qualified, certified educator with over 20 successful years in my field, I'm disgusted by the fact that any school district would allow their employees to protest much less pay them for it, as well. But, wanting to take away teachers' pensions is horrific. That's not the answer. I've said it before and I'll say it, again, please stop lumping all school districts and all teachers together. There are good apples 🍎and 🍏bad apples in every single profession including construction. The way to resolve situations like this one is to get involved at the local level. Show up at school board meetings and voice your opinion. Get involved during school board member elections. School board members are elected by local residents, then the school board members typically nominate/approve the Superintendent. The Superintendent is the one who makes many of the decisions likely including the approval of teachers getting paid to protest. So, getting involved with who gets elected to the school board is important! 📚✏️🎓✂️🚌✏️📝

@SassySouthern2U Sam just canceled any and all funding that would have come from true conservatives. As cost per student funding has escalated previously w/o increasing student test scores. I smell a RINO.

Sam Page just said public schools must be ‘fully funded first’ before real school choice. Translation: Protect the failing monopoly, slap income caps on poor kids’ escape hatch, and keep shoveling money into a system that’s already flush while kids suffer. Newsflash, Sheriff: The money follows the child in vouchers. It’s not ‘taking from public schools’—it’s forcing them to compete or lose students. @sampage4nc Are you going to take options away from parents and children? It sure sounds like it! Universal choice or bust. Stop playing both sides. Kids aren’t pawns for union priorities. 🔥 #SchoolChoice #NCPol

Over half the North Carolina state budget goes to EDUCATION. Half or more of most county property taxes in North Carolina counties goes to EDUCATION. For more than half your taxes, don't you think North Carolina should be above the National Average in 4th Grade and 8th Grade testing?

@joseangel1219 @elonmusk Schools closed bc they didn’t have enough people to work- firing them all would mean we can’t open schools? In Nc there are already tons of unfilled teaching positions- this would literally shut down the system but yeah let’s fire the all

@OddSheepdog @W_O_P_R The issue with opportunity scholarship is it’s still not enough to make private schools free- so it disproportionately leaves one portion of society with no choice. If choice isn’t equitable is it really choice at all? The students who can afford to leave will

@CallMeT_FromNC she had a 1/3 ratio and can buy all supplies but not have to pay for infrastructure or salaried positions. I’d love $500 PER student to buy supplies for my students in my class and I bet I could do a hell of a job with only 3 kids that I have parental support- ya not the same

My daughter homeschools her 3 children in another state. She spends about $1500-$2000 annually for materials for all three. All three test at or above grade level AND she spends about 2-3 hours a day on direct teaching. In addition, the kids have extracurriculars and are learning trade skills. Public schools are a farce.

@prosefulpatriot @HistoryBoutique And this shows why the schools need more funding- if they can’t afford to feed their children they also can’t afford the paper pencils and mental health needs that schools need to support. This statistic shows how poor our students are and how much the schools need to support

700,000 kids didn’t go to school yesterday in North Carolina. More than 60% of these children rely on school meals as their primary source of nutrition. So while our teachers play COSPLAY COMMUNISTS, Our children go without food. North Carolina, you are better than this.

I appreciate the sentiment, but teachers have to be honest to gain the respect of the general public... I've fed my family of four (now inc. a bonus high schooler) exclusively on a teacher's salary (and side hustles) for 13 years.
Justin Parmenter@JustinParmenter

NC is losing the competition for teachers. Take a look: Avg teacher pay: NC ~$59,971 VA ~$72K GA ~$72.7K SC ~$67.1K TN ~$62.9K NC is getting outbid for its own teachers. This trend won’t end until the numbers change. #nced #redfored

@KennethMcClamro These numbers are not correct- a 25+ year teacher only make $62000 so how is the average $60k. Mathematics disagree or if they are correct we are about to be royally screwed because it means we are soooo top heavy with people about to retire the system is going to collapse

@Prisca_101 @planblj @mattvanswol If you’re a teacher you would know students are required to go to school 180 and that’s before workdays. Interesting you don’t know that as a teacher 😳. You’re contract that you sign each year has this outlined since your contracted.

@BarbetDad @andrew_dunn @PeteKaliner @ncae Untrue- performance based on testing is based on socio economic status. Good teacher will flock to rich districts bc good scores equal more money. This is exactly how you have inequity in education completely unfair to students and teachers.

@MargoinWNC The thing is it’s not about teacher pay it’s about school funding- they are fighting for your kids. We are spending less than any other state in thr country. They are taking funding from your students- join the fight it’s not them versus parents. Teachers need our help
