Congratulations to @apsarruda and @gparlakgul @UCBerkeley for their tremendous effort and creativity to put together this groundbreaking work. In this study, examining more than 100K individual mitochondria and their interactions with the ER during fasting and obesity, Ana and Güneş provide definitive conclusions to some heavily debated questions. The study reveals @8nm isotropic resolution, based on 22 terabytes of imaging data, the molecular subcellular architectural changes, their relation to liver zonation, how these structures are regulated in health (fasting) and disease (obesity), and the molecular mechanisms driving these structural reprogramming in the liver. The cellular basis of liver regeneration has been a confusing field. B4, we showed that zone 2 hepatocytes are important. BUT, there are still no devoted tools to study zone 2 cells. Now, @YuHsuan_0 + @YonglongW provide a nice tool to assess zone 2. 1/5 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
