Samus confronts Dark Samus in this striking, new retro-style Blender animation from @cgchefs.
Take a peek behind the scenes: 80.lv/articles/samus…

@NomadPixel @deantwotwo As well as a free demo we will release alongside it with some base shaders and post process effects.
English

@NomadPixel @deantwotwo It's in the anime pack channel, just gotta scroll up, to see some behind the scenes shot and playback views, explaining some of the tech. There will be more soon once we launch the anime pack tho.

@MilkyBo08330178 @deantwotwo All shaders post process and lighting is custom too, we want to make some tutorials for it later.

Reviving an animation I made 5 years ago with the help of my friends at @cgchefs!

Samus vs Dark Samus Made in #blender #b3d Anim by @deantwotwo
English

@MilkyBo08330178 @deantwotwo Most background assets were kitbash from Ushenok and Jama Jurabev on gumroad to safe time trying different layout, and some were procedurally made by us with geometry nodes. More on that soon.

Hey everybody look at this: it's proof of how incredible an ANIMATED (NOT live action) Metroid movie would be!!

Samus vs Dark Samus Made in #blender #b3d Anim by @deantwotwo
English

@cgchefs @deantwotwo OH!! that could totally be true. one other thing too., i've been going through sorta frame by frame. and i think what could be a big part of it, is that the background is going a more stable fps, while the characters are going a slower 24
English

@crab_rare @deantwotwo I think one reason that it could be different for 3D anim compared to 2D is that we predict a certain flow to fill in the gaps but its slightly different and more mechanical in 3D. Its very tricky to get right, hence why traditional will always stay king.
English

@cgchefs @deantwotwo yesss, that was the first time i had EVER had a negative reaction to ANY form of media in my life. i used to have to close my eyes when the trailers came on. but again. same with that uhh shrek cat spinoff movie lskghdldhg and i really have no idea why??
English

@crab_rare @deantwotwo Sorry to hear that, its definitely not just you, I remember seeing spiderverse the first time, it was jarring but got used to it after some time. Check with a doctor to be sure tbh.
English

@crab_rare @deantwotwo Oh damn did you get similar vibes watching spiderverse? its 24 fps.
English

@cgchefs @deantwotwo glad to know i'm not the only one!! i'm just so curious why this sets off my epilepsy, but traditional animation at the same frame rate doesn't? do you know exactly what fps this is running at? :0
English

@crab_rare @deantwotwo yeah you're right some people are more sensitive to this type of framerate, pretty much our first time testing this technique on a real scene.
Added a keyframed modifier to do stepping afterwards to mimic 2D animation, would probably need some refinement :)
English

@cgchefs @deantwotwo so this looks great, i'm not trying to complain or anything. i'm just genuinely curious why so much modern CGI animation is made with frame rate like this? is there a technical reason for it? i have mild photosensitivity and seeing this sort of thing genuinely makes me dizzy...
English

@DamidrawsVT Thanks, It's a custom compositor bloom made by our shader wizard @Cuboxel, it carries a lot of the look.
English

@cgchefs May I ask how you got that retro bloom effect? Is it just noise and bloom? Love this
