Never knew the @cta @fly2ohare operations office was built to look kind of like a CTA rail car got jammed into the station sideways.

From CTA on the firing of 159 security guards: "The CTA is strategically strengthening system security by expanding police presence, K-9 units, and crisis response initiatives. Funding previously allocated to unarmed security guards will instead be directed to sworn officers, specially trained professionals and other security resources who are better equipped to help keep riders and staff safe.”
Paris Schutz@paschutz

BREAKING into @fox32chicago: SEIU confirms that CTA has suddenly laid off 159 private security guards. The notices came on Friday. "We aren’t giving a comment yet, but we can confirm that 159 Local 1 members employed by Monterrey Security were laid off. These officers helped keep the Red Line, Blue Line and several garages monitories and safe." This comes as Springfield passed legislation providing $1.5 billion in new funding for public transit, including beefing up security and public safety.

Tipping originated following the abolition of slavery. After Emancipation, many white employers took cues from the sharecropping system and refused to pay Black workers—forcing them to rely entirely on tips to support their families. The institutionalized reliance on tipping remains a uniquely American phenomenon, and Mayor Johnson is proud to be a leader in the movement to ensure working people receive the dignity and respect they deserve.

Every night I drink something I call Knockout Tea. It’s a bag of chamomile tea, 5-10 grams of glycine, and electrolytes. The chamomile calms the nervous system. The glycine improves sleep quality, and the electrolytes prevent nighttime trips to the bathroom.

AI is turning designs into code at unprecedented speed. Excellent insights from Evan Spiegel, founder of Snap: 1. The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas. 2. The whole world of design is changing rapidly because designers are empowered by AI and can ship and test immediately. 3. If you were to sit in on a Snap design meeting you’d hear us go through a huge volume of work. 100s of ideas in a few hours. 4. The most toxic thing you can have is people attached to an idea. 5. If you create a culture where there’s an endless flow of ideas you’re much more likely to get lucky and find a great one. 6. Less than 1% of the ideas we discuss are ever seen by a user. 7. Ideas are free. There should be a zillion of them. 8. Design to code is happening way faster than ever before. [And this trend will only accelerate]

Arguably, the hardest thing to fix in cities will be the SCHOOLS. Democrats’ reliance on urban teachers unions for votes and support prevents implementing necessary reforms and accountability to deliver excellent public education for urban families. Until that changes, cities will continue to bleed families to suburbs.
Bobby Fijan@bobbyfijan

And SCHOOLS Public transit, safety, diverse mixed-use buildings and beauty are good and necessary … but not sufficient. Cities will not work for families, especially working class, unless public education is excellent throughout.
