Similar experience. Then got hit with a layoff and cancer within the span of 90 days. Ended up losing the house after a year of pridefully continuing to pay my mortgage when I should have walked away much much earlier. I’ve managed to claw my way back but it has taken three years to do so. Lots of lessons learned. If your mortgage is 3.5 or higher and you don’t have family money as a safety net, you are on a razors edge. Plan accordingly and act decisively if things tip out of favor. Lessons learned.
