@gregspierce Good stuff indeed. Need more of this and recognition to prioritize and address the most pressing needs first. Keep it up!

Read this and our recent piece (below) on US drinking water contamination together, which both show: "exposure profiles, health risks, and water quality reliability issues vary widely across populations, geographically and by contaminant."

Directly impacted areas took longer, and that was with more readily available resources nearby (staff, analytical lab capacity, equipment). 1.5 years later, we're still sampling water quality in homes that are being rebuilt in neighborhoods that were directly impacted.

Good estimates @TheWheltonGroup for the wildfire-impacted water system as a whole. Louisville and Superior, CO accomplished this after the @MarshallFire in most indirectly impacted areas of their wildfire-impacted water systems in less than a month with herculean effort.

So, how long will it take to get safe water again after the #MauiWildfires? 🟠 For #Lahaina, probably 3-9 months. 🟠For systems repressurized or partially in use, 1-3 months. 12/n

One forgets what it’s like to have multiple drinking water folks ⁦@EPAwater⁩ discussing complex issues surrounding potential revisions to the MDBP regs. Two-and-a-half days for an in-person after eight virtual meetings (long ones). Great to see everyone in person!!

@AlanTheWaterMan Perhaps sobering, but definitely expected. This story of PFAS occurrence echos past episodes with pharmaceuticals and naturally occurring inorganics in water sources: More monitoring with lower detection limit methods = more detections! But what do we deem meaningful?

This is the quote in this report that I found sobering: "...show the number of new detections in water sources each year rose from 753 in 2013 to 2,321 in 2021." IMHO, that number will go up even more after UCMR5 & what about private wells? abcnews.go.com/US/pfas-enteri…

💯percent need to comprehensively assess the nation’s drinking water quality! You may find it hard to believe this isn't done already, but it's not. It needs to be done, and soon...to prioritize and solve the most pressing public health concerns in U.S. drinking water.

The gist of our new report w/ @rcapinc: We reflect on what a comprehensive national assessment of drinking water quality compliance could look like based on: - the CA Needs Assessment - Talking to a lot of smart people - Some original data exploration innovation.luskin.ucla.edu/2023/04/27/new…

@gregspierce This is terrific! Thanks @gregspierce and team! Let’s make a comprehensive national assessment happen and then implement solutions to address those needs!

My favorite albeit packed graphic, comparing CA NA methodology to EPA's DWINSA. Looking forward to updating this when full DWINSA is out!
