Anyone out there is in the need of an accurate representation of how most "modern" software is built and used? I offer you this GIF. #sigh

There's now a #SecretLab in my secret lab. (Badumm, tsk...) Treated myself to a SecretLab TITAN Evo XL NanoGen™ Pure Black gaming chair. Home office means, I literally live in this chair for 8+ hours a day, so I tried to have something nice for once. No regrets so far!

@Sutehk1 A couple of years back the creator of IDE64 firmware made a 1541Ultimate/Ultimate64 version due to the lack of new IDE64 hardware, and wanted to upstream it, but it was rejected by Gideon, AFAIK. But I don't know more details.

Ok so the Ultimate 64 by the new Commodore is a great machine…. However to fulfill the promise of returning to BBS’s there needs to be be mass storage alternatives. The built in drive emulation is well done but BBS’s depend on large storage capacity and partitioning…. The existing BBS software depended on hardware like the CMD HD which can be represented in software with a .dhd file VICE does it …. The Ultimate needs this capability…. picking a CMD drive as device 12 in the Ultimate menu would go a long way to the Ultimate being the BBS machine of choice…. @CharlesHawn66 @8BitBoyzRetro @commodoreofcl @EverythingC64

@Claude1079 @sidecartridge Yes, all of that is clear, but in case of the ROM emulator. If you swap the ROM image served towards the mainboard. Will it be re-copied on a warm-restart? I doubt, as some accelerators even allow custom images to be uploaded (like my B2060) and they persist across reboots.

@chainq @sidecartridge Abstract seen it doesn't matter when and how often the copy process happens from Mainboard ROM :) the Mainboard ROM is always accessed with the same timings electrically, if a 68000 or 68060 it's the same. Therefore I assume the behaviour is identical to a physical EPROM :)

🎉 Finally, the #Amiga version of the ROM Emulator (Kickstart Emulator) is working flawlessly with all classic Kickstart versions (1.2 to 3.1) and EmuTOS! It’s been quite a journey to make it compatible with those early Kickstarts… but it’s ready, and units will soon ship to selected testers. The more I dive into early Amiga OS, the clearer it becomes this machine was never really meant to be a general-purpose computer. It feels like developing for a gaming console. My main concern now: I can’t ship any Kickstart ROMs due to licensing. On the Atari ST I solved this by bundling EmuTOS and letting users add their own ROMs. For Amiga, if I don’t find a better solution, I’ll likely do the same: ship with EmuTOS and let users provide their own Kickstarts or buy Amiga Forever. 💡 Open to clever alternatives!

@sidecartridge @Claude1079 OK, fair. I was sure it would work on a cold boot. I wasn't sure if the MapROM copying process happens on every reboot, or a re-copy can be triggered when the image changes in the underlying Kickstart "ROM". But if this had been thought of, I shut up... 🤐😅

May be I sound too assertive. The device is going to work with MapROM, but I don’t want to start saying it at this moment. The classic MapROM loading process (OVL register at boot, copy to fast ram, etc.) should work. But I won’t say the sentence “Yes, it works with MapROM” until is properly tested.

@sidecartridge The ACA500 (that has the ROMs built in) and the PiStorm aren't the only candidates here... But anyway, just pointing it out, that it's a maze of corner cases. Although it's probably less of a problem indeed on lower-end systems.

@chainq No. Accelerators have their own ROM chips. And PiStorm emulate the ROMs afaik.

@sidecartridge Thanks for the reply. I'm a developer with good OS knowledge on Amiga. If you need help writing the ROM switcher, I could look into it. (Free of charge. I just want this product to exist, and be good, because I need it. 😅)

@chainq Hi there! The device is working. The problem is the software running on the Amiga Kickstart. Making it work from 1.1 to 3.1 is challenging… I hope to come back with good news along this month.

@sidecartridge any news about the ROM emulator Amiga Kickstart switcher for A500? A friend of mine just made an inquiry about which switcher I'd recommend, and I'm also waiting for it. Earlier I bought the TOS emulator for my STE, and it's great!

@Iggi76123640 Hey, no, sorry, I don't have a spare. I only have one, and that now sits in my "almost-Commodore-Only" A2000 build that also has the A2091 I bought from you. (Along with an A2630, A2320, and other goodies.) A 2nd one I had here was @rATdrAg0n's, and I gave it back, I think.

The moment when during The Standup with @ThePrimeagen, @cmuratori pulls up an Amiga 2000 keyboard that just "happens to be" on his desk, because it's so amazing. Yes. YES. Thank you. 🥹 (Below is my desk, as illustration. Yes, I'm also a McIntosh user, running McOS. 😅)

@LinuxJedi @tomcr2100 I'm fairly sure there's no such function as LockPubScreenTagList... But overall, it kinda tries to do the right thing, by locking the default public screen for getting its dimensions and before opening a window on it, but the screen lock should be held until after OpenWindow.
