Archive | Dalit History Month Institutionally sanitised to appear in festivals and be decorated with awards, the Dalit Tamasha woman is a totem for Marathi culture and identity, yet is a taboo because she represents forbidden desire. @chaltipatang: himalmag.com/culture/lavani…

@amazonIN please sort out your delivery issues. The delivery associates assigned to my area throw the parcel anywhere around the house and it takes days to track them down. When I met the delivery associate today he yelled at me + threatened to cancel my order. What's the issue?

@AmazonHelp The chatbot doesn't have an option to report my specific issue. I have received my order today but also had the delivery person threaten to cancel my order. How do I report that? I have rated the delivery already.

@AmazonHelp I've marked this as an issue multiple times and am losing faith to the point where I definitely don't see myself buying high value items on Amazon, haven't had a doorstep delivery in about three months now because it is always dumped somewhere and marked as delivered.

To imagine a performance of citizenship through the body of the Indian dancer is to commit to messy affective trajectories. @chaltipatang on dance and performance across boundaries of caste, gender and citizenship in India: himalmag.com/culture/lavani…

@Kuvera_In your team did reach out and said something about escalation 12 days ago, but I am STILL waiting for an actual solution. Terrible response time and I am forced to begin looking at other platforms instead of Kuvera.

@Kuvera_In I've emailed support@kuvera.in multiple times to resolve an issue I'm having with my account. I still haven't heard back. It's been four (working) days. This is utterly irresponsible for a financial platform.

...Paik shows us how Tamasha artists were negotiating individual survival and collective identity. They were held doubly responsible for reclaiming Dalit identity and were seen as an antithesis to the robust body politic Ambedkar wanted fellow Dalits to cultivate.

Through a historical review of Ambedkar’s statements on Tamasha and Lavani, and also his articulation of manuski (humanity), dharmantar (religious conversion) and samaj (society) as strategies for caste liberation...

Scholar Shailaja Paik uses terms in English, Hindi and Marathi to foreground culturally specific concepts, like 'ashlil', to describe the notoriety that sticks to Tamasha performers’ bodies. My review essay on her book and two others for @Himalistan .

@AsheeshKSi As someone who has just done this (published a fair bit this year + bid adieu to academia), it's not so bad. I don't work 24/7, I am paid for my experience and not my degrees, and don't have to write proposals to keep justifying my existence, worth, breath.

We need to read and do dance in conversation with our daily realities. To imagine a performance of citizenship and identity through the body of the Indian dancer is to commit to messy affective trajectories. Review essay for @Himalistan

Which bodies are 'ashlil', and which bodies evade that label? Shailaja Paik offers a social, intellectual and affective history of tamasha. The ashlil is sticky, attaching itself directly to the bodies of women who perform Tamasha, instead of accruing to what they do.
Himal Southasian@HimalSouthasian

No performance is ever created or staged in complete isolation. It is shaped by socio-cultural factors and stylistic influences, with far-reaching implications for how society is organised and read. @chaltipatang writes: himalmag.com/culture/lavani…
