Thank you to the many thousands of people across the whole of the NHS & social care who helped deliver the care during the pandemic. Has been a strange and difficult day. But felt it was important to give witness to some small part of the enormity of the challenge we all faced.

Tim Farron, "The unpleasantness about this debate is only matched by the lack of proper information" #BBCQT "85% of refugees settle in the country next to where they come from" "The French take 3x more refugees than we do" "The Germans take 4x more refugees than we do" "If you put us back in the European Union, we are 19th in the league table when it comes to the number of refugees we take per capita" "Do we need deterrents? Yes. The best deterrents is competence. If we assess people when they arrive - and they are not illegal immigrants - they are people seeking asylum.. From Sudan.. Afghanistan.. Iran.. Syria.. 90%+ turn out to be genuine refugees" "If we have a competent government, and we haven't had one, let's see about this one.. And you assess them quickly.. And return the ones that are not refugees" "That is your deterrent" "Rwanda was a waste of money.. If they spent that money on case workers we could have processed these people, returned the ones that weren't refugees in a humane way, and let th eones who are genuine refugees, become British, pay their taxes, be part of our country, and we should be proud to admit them" Very well said @timfarron 👏

Resident Doctors’ pay dispute may end soon… “22%” is a sincere offer from the govt but… Bear in mind it’s still only about 7% per year And Residents will still be much less well off than they would have been in 2008 Let’s hope a deal is made! 1/2 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

There will be women tonight dreading their partner coming home. Football does not cause domestic abuse, but it can become more frequent or severe after big games, with reporting increasing by 38% when England lose. Go to womensaid.org.uk. In an emergency, always call 999.

We owe it to them: all our female ancestors who were denied that democratic right. Patriarchal forces still attempt to hold us back by pushing apathy, telling us that “politicians are all the same”. They’re not - and you have the right to choose, to vote from the heart, for our future, for all our children - and to make your voice and your vote count.

They went up under Liz Truss, under Boris Johnson, under Theresa May, under David Cameron.. Do you want to know WHY crime is not going down? 14 yrs of Tory Govt decimated policing (1/2m yrs experience lost, 800 stations closed), the courts (100s gone), the prisons & support services overwhelmed They also increased poverty & inequality Victims & communities pay the price

If we had a public inquiry into Brexit, as well as Covid, we’d have many of the same characters, the same attitudes, and the same bullshit. A government built on hate, lies, narcissism, fear, bullying, innumeracy and tribalism is unlikely to deliver for its people. And it hasn’t.

Sleeping on the streets is NOT a lifestyle choice. We don’t have nearly enough affordable homes, rents are soaring and this is leaving people destitute and forced to sleep rough. This is a consequence of poverty. And poverty in this country has been exacerbated by policy choices
Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

The British people are compassionate. We will always support those who are genuinely homeless. But we cannot allow our streets to be taken over by rows of tents occupied by people, many of them from abroad, living on the streets as a lifestyle choice. 1/4

Shelter@Shelter·
Let's make it clear: living on the streets is not a ‘lifestyle choice’ - it is a sign of failed government policy. No one should be punished for being homeless. Criminalising people for sleeping in tents, and making it an offence for charities to help them, is unacceptable.
