@sudaththa @yudhanjaya Is there any brand considerations when buying the accessories like the inverters, solar panels etc. What brands are recommended in SL, any idea?
English

So I have two 5kW hybrid inverters running parallel. Inverters are the weakest link in offgrid systems so I got two mid sized ones instead of one large one so I'd have redundancy.
Each inverter is connected to nine 550W solar panels.
For storage I have two 48V 5kWh Lifepo4 batteries again connected in parallel. That gives me 10kWh storage.
I am planning to add two more batteries to the system but didn't cos batteries were expensive when I got them. The prices have gone down since then but with some lifestyle changes this is enough.
Since I generate a lot more power than I can store we do most of the energy intensive tasks during day time. Cooking, laundry, charging the EV etc. Plus I run the AC during the day when it's hot so I don't need a lot of energy to cool down the room at night.
Speaking of costs the inverters costed me around 200k each. Batteries were around 400k and panels I've been buying since 2019 and the prices have been going down from 44k in 2019 to 32k when I got my last four.
I got a solar sub contractor to install the panels and got an electrician to do the wiring, so with surge protection stuff and all the setup didn't cost much either. Electrician just charged me 10k iirc. Solar guy provided the aluminum accessories and all so his charges were a bit higher but altogether was less the 100k.
So everything depends on your requirements your lifestyle and how much you'd want to get involved.

@yudhanjaya @sudaththa Yeah I also want to know. I want to initially invest in a setup that can run maybe a laptop, tv, power the router, with maybe some lights and phones in case of power cuts. Extend it further later.

@sudaththa It must have been less expensive to set up this system in 2019.

1st batch
2nd dial done
Around 6 hours of sanding, just grit changes, tiny corrections, and a finish that only exists because a human did it

I've been waiting all day to try this little tool we made yesterday, time to sand some dials

If you had to pick a typeface for a watch brand that’s modern, minimal, slightly experimental but still readable… what would you choose?
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about fonts. Typefaces. Typography. All of it.
I keep coming back to what Hermès is doing with their watches. I’m not even the biggest fan of their designs overall, but their font work is incredible. It’s novel, and I absolutely love that a brand with that much prestige is willing to experiment and not just recycle another “luxury” look
And now I’m stuck thinking about what my watches should say through their typography, while I generally prefer sans-serif fonts, I am not completely against the idea of a serif font on my watch face
I need a font for the word “Viktor” underneath the logo, and a font for the word “AUTOMATIC” above the model name on the bottom of the dial
I am open to any suggestions, screenshots, references, I want to see everything and of course I would really appreciate the effort

After two weeks of experimenting with paints, sanding, filling, and cleaning... I finally have a dial worth sharing There’s still a shitton of work ahead, but progress like this is motivating, with text, next batch is going to be even better

One of the biggest problems that’s making me rethink my entire workflow right now is something stupid simple, but something I somehow didn’t consider:
Using a fiber laser bends the metal.
And that’s where shit begins -
These tiny micro-depressions stay untouched when sanding, and trying to sand them manually just creates weird scratch patterns I still don’t know how to get rid of, at least not in a way that I’m satisfied
I genuinely thought this part would be easy, but it turns out if the dial has even the slightest internal tension from the laser, it behaves like you’re sanding a fucking pringle
Anyway, the sun’s out, the day’s pretty, and I’m gonna figure something out, because I always do.
