There's an ongoing effort to suppress the social injustice of LTNs. To counter this, just look at LTNs in Enfield. Starting point: 2021 census (disdadvantage, ethnicity, car ownership) & TfL crashmap data. Guess where have Enfield Council deemed priority areas for LTNs? (1)

@allpartycycling Why are supporters of LTNs seeking shelter behind established measures such as cycle lanes & 20mph? @TransPlanSoc @BenGoldsmith @SelaineSaxby @RuthCadbury Only a review of LTNs is confirmed, and with good reason. They damage bus services & increase car ownership/mileage driven.

Times reports Transport Secretary Mark Harper has insisted, after campaigners wrote to him, the DfT LTN review is independent: “It was an eyebrow-raiser” that part of the review was to be carried out by LTN advocate Rachel Aldred. It's separate to the Rishi Sunak LTN review.

Retweeted impartially — very, very interesting and detailed.

So, public health advice in today’s High Pollution Alert is to avoid busy roads! What about those living, working, waiting for buses, shopping, going to school on roads made busier by neighbouring LTNs? How do they reduce their risks @MayorofLondon @NHSEngland @NHSEnglandLDN ?

BREAKING NEWS: Aldred and colleagues claim #LTNs reduce vehicle mileage but the figures show that they a increase vehicle mileage. @Mark_J_Harper @transportgovuk why is the DfT funding such poor quality research? findingspress.org/article/75470-… In her latest study Aldred et al. claim that #LTNs reduce miles driven by monitoring residents with parking permits and the mileage recorded on their MOTs between March 2020 and March 2023. Aldred et al. selected a sample set of 4% of all Lambeth registered vehicles ONLY from people who have resident parking permits for cars or vans. The paper shows heavy SELECTION BIAS as it excluded huge numbers for a variety of reasons e.g. - drove too many miles - don't live in a CPZ - recorded mileage is not deemed acceptable - did not have 'regular' MOTs They failed to address significant CONFOUNDING FACTORS including the significant number of people working from home (4-52%), the impact of the planned ULEZ extension, the impact of School Streets, or other financial constraints. Instead she claimed her 'results' were solely due to #Lambeth LTNs without addressing any other impacts. Worse still her own calculations are wrong. Aldred et al. state that people are driving 700 metres less a day inside their LTN - presumably as they can't drive out through their LTN other than the single access point they now have which is near to a their nearest boundary road - not rocket science. Aldred et al. then state that those people are driving 300 metres MORE per day near their LTN and 600 metres MORE per day in the control area which they defined to encompass the Lambeth LTNs so that is 900 metres MORE driving per day: Therefore -700m + 300m + 600m = +200m So Lambeth LTNs cause an INCREASE in driving of her heavily biased 4% sample of drivers. Conclusions: 1. LTNs INCREASE vehicle mileage 2. Aldred's studied are heavily biased and flawed. They are poor quality and this cycle lobby member should not longer receive taxpayer funding. 3. Covid era LTNs should be ripped out based on this data.
