@RepSummerLee Agreed. My heart broke for victims of anti -American hate on 9/11 also.

Relieved to hear the families and students at the Islamic Center of San Diego are now safe. My heart breaks for the families of the three people killed.
Islamophobia is rampant from the highest levels of government to our local communities. Hate has no place in our country and we must condemn it in all its forms.

@T65L @SharpFootball My grandpa said the same thing years ago about ESPN & cable which he did not have.
English

@SharpFootball Too bad I can only watch the games on thanksgiving because I don't have netflix or amazon prime. The n f l no longer cares about its base customer. Just fantasy football and gambling and young people.

Today I was laid off from the IT field after 30 years at the same job.
I started part time in 96' when I was a junior in high school, just doing basic troubleshooting and fixing computers. I worked through college and then full time after.
What did I get for my 30 years of service?
Almost nothing.
I got 3 weeks vacation, which was supposed to be accrued only (which would have been 1.5 weeks) but after I complained it was changed to the full 3 weeks and paid medical for a few months.
No severance. No cushion. Nothing. 😒
Why was I laid off?
- Dwindling client base - The number was cut in half in recent years; several closed and some found other IT vendors. Splitting time between a smaller number of clients obviously is not sustainable.
- AI automation - gone are the days of needing to run around to every computer to apply updates, basic things can be fixed remotely, and AI makes reporting that took days take hours. Instead of asking IT for help, clients just ask AI which walks them through fixing many things - Instead of needing an expert, AI can do it all for you.
- Less need for IT support - back in the day, late 90's - 2010's, people had no idea how to do basic computing, hooking up computer, printers, ect. The modern workforce is able to do most of this stuff themselves and are much more computer savvy.
What will I do now?
Not sure. Since I have done this for 30 years, I'm unsure of the direction I want to go. I could get into another IT job probably, but we will see where the wind takes me.
Without X, I would be sunk - the cost of living is so high in MA, all of my regular income went to cover the essentials. Most of the money that I have earned on X has been saved so I have that to fall back on but I never intended for it to be my full time thing.
The direction X is going I sadly dont know if its viable to do full time and that's pretty sad for an account this size. At one point it seemed like a possibility, but the way things are looking now, it seems like they dont want to pay anyone for anything any more.
In the meantime, I will be trying to improve my X game and possibly doing more spaces, articles, research, ect - but at the end of the day, even if I do those things, I have no idea if it will be worth it or viable the way things are looking.
'Make your living on X' Elon once said - it seems like a pipe dream at this point but here's to hoping for the future. 🥂

@TheAlexJacob @CollinRugg @grok Why the conspiracy. Dude through himself under a moving train last year in my city. A few days later his parents got a suicide letter in the mail. What’s your conspiracy ? Dude scales a fence intentionally and walks onto an active runway because of CIA mind control ?
English

@CollinRugg That’s a very odd and specific suicide isn’t it?
@grok is there any available history on Michael Mott? Did he have a social media presence or is there any public medical or criminal history on him?

JUST IN: The man who walked in front of a Frontier jet while it was taking off from Denver has been identified as 41-year-old Michael Mott.
Mott had climbed the perimeter fence just minutes before walking on the runway. He was identified by fingerprints at the scene.
According to Denver's chief medical examiner, Sterling McLaren, Mott's death was ruled a su*cide. He was sucked into one of the plane's engines.
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas says no vehicle or bike was found at the location where Mott jumped the fence.
While Mott reportedly scaled the 8-foot-tall fence, the airport's motion sensors detected a herd of deer near where he was.
Mott reportedly had previous contact with law enforcement in the metro area, but no more details were released.

HOLD UP .... Mint Mobile is like $20 bucks a month unlimited. Can pair it with 5G home internet for $45.
Why am I paying T Mobile $200 for the same thing?
I always thought Mint Mobile was for trap phones in the hood, never knew I could use an iphone with it.
T Mobile owns Mint, so im getting the same exact service for 1/10th the cost....
Whats the catch here?

Just Let Me Pay You
I'm on a flight. I want Wifi. There's a portal. It requires me to make an account. I don't want to make an account. Alternatively, I can "log in" with my booking reference code and my last name.
I open the Delta App on my phone to get the booking reference. But the Delta App -- for some reason -- doesn't store my session, but rather wants to authenticate me *every single time* using Face ID. But I don't have internet connectivity so Face ID fails? And it's not using my passcode as a backup? Sigh. All I want to do is pay for the Wifi. I try three or four times, but there seems to be no way to open the app without Wifi. I hate this.
I luckily find the booking reference somewhere in my phone's cached emails. I select the Wifi Plan and proceed to pay. The browser interface has disabled the system's automated credit-card filling. Thrillingly secure. There's an Apple Pay option. I select the right card. Apple Pay wants to jump from my Laptop and verify on my phone. Face ID doesn't work again, presumably because there's no network connection at all on my phone. Back to entering the credit card manually. Fine. I have to open my phone and go into my Apple Wallet and find the credit card information. Finally I am able to pay.
This was a horrible process and deeply irritating. At multiple points I thought "screw this, I'm going to sleep". Or I can just do offline work for a few hours. No big deal. It is demeaning to crawl through this finicky process to get Wifi. I feel physically repulsed by this customer experience: I am ready to close my laptop and to move on with my life.
This is a multi-billion-dollar airline. And it's not just them. All the time I run into extremely hostile user experiences in the flow of paying the company. Whether it's Target, CVS, Square, Delta, you name it: I'm trying to give them money and they have bugs or glaring UX issues that make me want to drop off the purchasing flow and curse them for wasting my time and raising my heart rate. All I am trying to do is give them money -- profits! amazing! -- and they are making it hard. If you want people to pay you for stuff, you should make it easy for them to pay you. This is so exasperating.

@TexasTesler @jackunheard Fair. On the flip side keep your dog out of my pet free tavern and don’t complain when they don’t let the mutt in. Go somewhere else.
