A man who couldn't walk vanished from his hospital bed while a nurse stepped out for two minutes. 13 days later, a construction worker crawled into the hospital ceiling and found him de*d in the dark.
Teteteke Gqotsi, 61 and a father of six, was admitted to Stellenbosch Hospital on October 5, 2017 for abdominal surgery.
A nurse left his room briefly to fetch clean linen. When she returned, he was gone.
His family told reporters he was unlikely to have been able to walk unsupported at the time.
"He disappeared under their own guard and was subsequently found in their facility in an area he couldn't have accessed by himself."
The hospital never informed the family of his disappearance. They only found out two days later. Police and family searched the building and surrounding grounds. Nothing.
On October 20, construction workers conducting renovations crawled into the ceiling of an isolated section of the hospital and found his body.
Then the autopsy made everything worse. Hospital management ent told the family he had not d*ed from surgical complications or natural causes, and that he had been placed in the ceiling after his de*th.
His brother Christmas Khethwane said: "They said it was clear that my brother did not die as a result of natural causes. He d*ed as a result of something and was placed where he was found."
Nearly two years later, his brother told reporters: "We are losing hope. No one has answers for us." The officer assigned to the case had lost interest. The family was considering legal action.
No one has ever been charged. No explanation has ever been given. The case remains officially open and completely unsolved.
@devahaz When we have a babysitter, I always make sure we have a variety of frozen meals and easy-to-make items (mac and cheese, ramen, deli meat and bread) for them to eat, but almost always, they choose to get food delivered instead. Very different than in my babysitting days!
A lot of older people in this latest round of cooking discourse don’t realize there are a bunch of young people who grew up treating DoorDash and UberEats like we treated frozen microwave meals
@901Lulu@TrueCrimeBelieb Witnesses that weren't reliable to testify? No eyewitnesses in the case at all but you say plenty that paint a picture.....maybe those "witnesses" paint the guilty they carry.
@TrueCrimeBelieb There are plenty of witnesses that paint a pretty good picture of what happened that night though. Even if it’s only circumstantial.
Not sure I believe in execution for this case, but a lot of people are calling him innocent and I am not sure that is true.
Gary Wayne Sutton is set to be executed on December 3, despite a case built almost entirely on circumstantial evidence. No DNA. No fingerprints. No confession. No eyewitnesses. Even the medical examiner whose testimony helped convict him was later disgraced, accused of misconduct, and stripped of his license.
Supporters say the state never established a clear motive, ignored other possible suspects, and relied on flawed forensic testimony to secure a death sentence. There are also ongoing concerns about Sutton’s intellectual disability and whether he is even legally eligible for execution.
When there are this many unanswered questions, the answer cannot be execution. Gary Wayne Sutton deserves a new trial before Tennessee carries out an irreversible punishment. #FreeGaryWayneSutton@CrimeWithDora
