Hundreds of videos of cartoon food characters, rendered in brightly colored Pixar-style animation, acting out heart-wrenching plot lines have been going viral. There’s the homophobic clementine that kicks his gay clementine son out of his house when he catches him experimenting with a strawberry (1.8 million views). There’s the pregnant broccoli that dumps her broccoli child in the trash, only to FaceTime him years later begging for forgiveness (2.1 million views). Many of the videos in this genre are silly, but others have distinctly misogynist or racist subtext. Yet people can’t seem to turn away. At first the videos were somewhat educational, according to Fana Yohannes, a trend curator and digital strategist. But over the past few months, Yohannes has watched the trend shift from practical advice to narratives featuring extreme human emotions — separation, terror, betrayal. The more heightened the drama, the more viral the post. “It seems like it went from a tool to create educational content to something people can use to make a quick buck and farm engagement,” she says. She refers to the talking-fruit videos as “the first-ever custom-GPT-generated social-media trend.” We’re already aware of how AI-generated content can collapse our ability to distinguish what’s fake from what is real, “but the talking-food videos indicate that AI isn’t just getting better at messing with our heads — it’s going to get better at messing with our hearts as well,” writes E.J. Dickson. Read Dickson on how fruit and vegetable AI slop videos are tapping into people’s emotions without actually earning it: nymag.visitlink.me/yDFeeW

Remember that for anyone to check that your work was written by AI using AI, they will have to feed your original text into AI, and that text entered into AI models can become part of the training data. So these weird vigilantes are in fact only part of the problem. I think writers need to start pushing pack by clearly demanding that their work not be fed into AI checkers without their permission. If you make a submission to a publisher or organisation you can say: I do not give permission for my work, in part or in full to be fed into any AI model, whether for the purpose of analysis, fact checking or AI-use detection. Because if you want to become a virtue signalling anti-AI vigilante you do not get to use AI as your cudgel.

A big part of loving someone that people often overlook is knowing they might be willing to do something reckless for you and caring enough not to let them. Love is also having the restraint not to exploit it and choosing their well being over your own ego boost.

This is on the main reasons Nigeria is on so many “no-one-needs-a-visa-except-you” lists. If Kenya has made it visa free for Nigerians, where is the reciprocity? Legit I entered linto Kenya a few weeks ago & no immigration officer asked me for anything!
Larry Madowo@LarryMadowo

Nigerians come to Kenya visa-free but Nigeria is denying Kenyans visas after applying, paying $80, submitting flight + hotel bookings, invitation letters etcetera. How is this acceptable?

Chicken republic food is only nice in rich neighborhoods. ChickWizz from agungi always has bones, mostly dry. I’ve gotten hurt multiple times from it Whenever I buy from Ikoyi or VI there’s a very clear difference. Never any bones, very well spiced and creamy. Classism is so wild

This is probably the lowest I've been since a few years. Can't find freelance work, was super close of getting a good job in a startup in Switzerland, I failed B2B sales, and I don't know how I'll pay rent this month. Worst of all: my second baby is coming next month. I did tons of outreach that I should have started earlier. But it'll likely won't bring any result for at least a month. So yeah, if you're looking for a senior developer with 10+ years of experience (18 in total, 13 as a pro), tons of skills, Laravel + ecosystem expert, LLMs expert, design expertise, business expertise, etc. Feel free to reach out.

You should have access to knowledge. However, you are not entitled to the intellectual labour of people for free simply because you cannot buy it. If someone gives it to you, good for you. But coming online to defend widespread piracy is not asserting your right to knowledge. It is wilfully demanding unpaid labour from others, something many of you defending piracy publicly are against. You don’t care about the knowledge producer. You don’t care that you are not only participating in extracting knowledge from people who have no intentions of providing that knowledge to you for free, aka stealing, but you are also encouraging that same stealing on a larger scale. You only care for your own need to access knowledge no matter who is harmed by it. And seeing as I have seen the opinions of some of you on other things, I know that it is not your nature to demand the unpaid labour of others, so I ask that like in all things where you show ethical care for the actual people harmed, you should also show ethical care for the writers and knowledge producers whose works you desire to access. I’m not even saying “stop pirating and buy books immediately.” I’m saying introspect, recognise the harm you are doing by championing piracy publicly and do what you know to be right.

I'm looking for a world-class Product Marketer (US-based 🇺🇸 ). Know one? 👀 @Ahrefs' product team is shipping faster than our marketing can keep up — and I need someone who can help us close that gap. Not a "landing page copywriter." Not a "campaign manager." But someone who lives and breathes positioning, messaging, and GTM — and can figure out the right format to land the message, whether that's a video, a teardown, a launch campaign, or something we haven't tried yet. Please ( 🙏 ) recommend some cool people that I could try to poach ( 😈 ).

Benevolent sexism and hostile sexism aren’t always opposites. Often times, they’re complementary A man who always opens doors for women and says things like “you’re too beautiful to be worried about money” is likely to also think women are “too emotional” for leadership Such a person may feel hostility toward women in power while simultaneously holding a chivalrous, protective attitude toward stay-at-home mothers Benevolent sexism often reflects subjectively positive, yet restrictive, attitudes that reward women for conforming to traditional roles (e.g., believing women are pure, delicate, and need protection by men). Once a woman steps out of such roles, she may get treated with contempt by same chivalrous men This sort of stick-and-carrot pattern is a very interesting irony I’ve noticed

When copywriters serving construction companies and copywriters serving fintechs are getting the same copy results from the same LLMs, this is bound to happen Creativity is moving towards a weird sort of singularity where everyone sounds the same
Supermegazillionaire Misty@misty_abisola

Back in my early career days, there was a very specific kind of creative shame. If your Creative Director reviewed your work and the ideas you shared sounded anything like another brand or agency’s work, you’ll never hear the last of it. God help you if the idea is now similar to what your client’s direct competitor had executed before. Any small thing: “Misty… this one that you’re looking very serious. Hope you’re not stalking XX brand to steal copy again?” 💀💀 What it immediately said was that you didn’t understand the brand, you didn’t interrogate the brief and you definitely did not have a strong strategy behind that idea. Originality was the bare minimum. Copywriters were actually… scary good. Wordplay was our playground. Fast forward to today and you can drive down a single road and see 10 billboards with the exact same copy style. “Where this meets that.” “Our mission, your vision.” It’s the same rhythm and the same template. And I keep asking myself… what exactly happened to us? Maybe it’s AI overdependence. Maybe we’re getting comfortable or maybe the barrier to entry now feels too low. But something is definitely shifting and not in a good way. Sometime last year, I had a free mentorship program through my company for young copywriters because I was so uncomfortable with this shift. I brought in my senior colleagues and we spent three months helping young copywriters break down ideas, strategy, brand voice, and conceptual thinking…the real backbone of this work. I’m not opening another cohort anytime soon 😅 but honestly, I need more senior copywriters to step into this gap. The creativity in this industry is thinning out because too many people think copywriting is just writing English. No more brand thinking or positioning or even distinction anymore. And if we don’t guard that standard, all our campaigns will continue sounding like one long copy-and-paste document.

Anthropic scrapes copyrighted materials online; creates a model that they charge $$ for; doesn’t compensate for use - apparently this is fair? Now Anthropic complains about other companies paying for model access, to create free models anyone can use - and this is not fair??
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

We’ve identified industrial-scale distillation attacks on our models by DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax. These labs created over 24,000 fraudulent accounts and generated over 16 million exchanges with Claude, extracting its capabilities to train and improve their own models.
