@JayFivekiller @Mihonarium “I should be in charge and you should defer to me” epistemic status: ineligible for peer review, zero peers have (in base reality) wielded or seen a gun

@Mihonarium As if anyone at LessWrong has any experience "maintain(ing) trust and chain of command", much less dealing with actual soldiers.

@chill__berrt @Romy_Holland It’s better to eat meat that’s produced ethically, but at the end of the day they still kill the cow to make the burger. Also once they’re old enough those grass fed cows are sold off to feed lots to be fattened before slaughter.

as someone who spent 16 years doing some combo of vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian and then gave up and ate meat while pregnant last year, i actually think this tweet is true. the feeling of choosing to eat meat was very much like “*shrug* i’m gonna do something selfish and sorta evil because im lazy and full of desire.” i think many choices are like this and you’ll find that acknowledging that reality actually feels better than doing mental gymnastics to justify your decisions.

a great test of "would you have been chill with owning slaves, if you'd been born into a slave-owning family" is whether or not you're vegetarian today

Oh totally I know, I’m just saying like, is your ethical condemnation based on framing just the killing itself as being wrong, even if it is done humanely? I don’t have strong priors here I’m curious how ppl think about it. It’s not obvious to me that it’s wrong if an animal has nice life and doesn’t suffer during death to eat it

It has always seemed very suspicious how they say autistic people have "social deficits" and "can't read social queues" when observationally, they're literally the easiest, most fun, and most natural people to hang out with
PsyPost.org@PsyPost

A new study shows that individuals with similar levels of autistic traits are naturally drawn to one another. Brain scans reveal they use alternative, highly effective neural strategies to connect, challenging traditional deficit-based models of autism. dlvr.it/TSSN7t

@_space_punk_ I read a tik tok theory that autistic people used to be the majority before WWI and “neurotypicals” were the rude ones

@chill__berrt @TheZvi Modern LLMs know their CoT isn't private, so the fact that they ever openly write "I'm gonna cheat on this test" means they don't care that much if you know after the fact (they already got the reward) But if you beat 'em with the RL stick, you're giving them a reason to care.

@RighttoTryGuy @TheZvi Right that’s what I’m confused by doesn’t that happen either way? Just from their awareness that cot reading exists at all

@chill__berrt @TheZvi Because they don't stop having the bad thoughts they just stop writing them down in the diary, which means you can't get useful insights from the diary anymore, and in fact the diary might even be used to mislead you into thinking everything is fine.

If you live in a major city and you're not coming home at 10:00 pm every night (socializing / talking / eating with friends) you are leaving free opportunities on the table millions would murder for.

We need to normalize telling your boss you're in love with a girl who lives across the country and you need to work remotely for a month to see if it can happen between the two of you
