JUST IN: The Office of the Ombudsman will file two separate complaints for preliminary investigation against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez for plunder and violation of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Fugitive Zaldy Co was also named co-respondent.
The ombudsman said Romualdez was identified as the "central figure in a scheme built on the diversion of public funds meant for flood control projects."
"At this point, we will ask the respondents, including former Speaker of the House, Martin Romualdez, to answer the allegations contained in the complaint and put forth his defense. Once we receive his defense and that of his co-respondents, the case will be submitted for resolution, and the decision will lie with the panel of prosecutors whether or not the case should be filed in the Sandiganbayan," Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said.
The announcement came a week before the State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Romualdez's cousin. | @bylancemejico

Sen.Marcoletas's SOCE declared his expenses of P112 million- part of which came from P75M donations of Defensor etc. So it's fake news to say he did not disclose it. It's wrong to say too that he should have declared it in his SALN. It's not his assets. What he spent were his obligations- from donations. It's not illegal to receive gifts or donations for campaign. Its not required by law to declare donations in SOCE- in fact its no longer criminal, Sec.39 RA 7166. And by Peñera doctrine, he was not yet candidate in January 2025. PD46 and Indirect Bribery, more so Plunder Law do not apply against Sen. Marcoleta.
