CHRDI Responds to Court Ruling on University of Sierra Leone Matter. After almost 730 days, the judiciary has finally passed a judgment on the CHRDI public interest case before the High Court Civil Division. We will pursue all available appellate options. A judiciary that delays for two years before delivering a ruling on constitutional and governance matters strikes at the heart of democracy. It creates a dangerous perception that the executive can act without check or consequence. Democracy is not weakened by scrutiny. It is weakened when scrutiny is denied or delayed beyond reason. Sierra Leone cannot build a resilient, just society if its courts shield public institutions from legitimate questions. This ruling, delivered after an inordinate delay, fell short of the standard of transparency and accountability promised at independence in 1961. The people of Sierra Leone deserve better. ©️CHRDI2026

When the ACC deliberately contradicts itself in public opinion polls, it shows contempt for citizens’ voices and reveals that it doesn’t understand how polls actually work. This poor performance from the ACC creates a "perception gap" that can be hard to bridge. That inconsistency isn’t a minor mistake — it destroys the institution’s credibility and makes it far less useful to the people it’s meant to serve. The inconsistency in their two lengthy, unnecessary messages suggests that the public's feedback is appreciated only when it is positive.

Opinion polls aren't a threat - they're a feedback mechanism. When a state institution misrepresents them, it exposes weak institutional capacity. The ACC's misunderstanding of opinion polls isn't just inaccurate; it erodes public trust in its work.

With support from the European Union and a subgrant from International IDEA, we are engaging key community stakeholders — religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth representatives, and market women — in structured dialogue on social accountability, electoral justice, and strategies to promote peace and community cohesion. This multi-stakeholder approach ensures that institutional reforms are grounded in community realities and that citizens are active participants in strengthening democratic governance ahead of the 2028 electoral cycle. @EUinSierraLeone @Int_IDEA #GoodGovernance #SocialAccountability #ElectoralJustice #SierraLeone #EU #InternationalIDEA #CivicEngagement

Update on the 14-year-old girl we reported: we have been informed by our police source that there is no case against her; according to DPP “advice” to the CID, she has been released after over 28 days in a police cell.

JUSTICE CANNOT WAIT FOR MONDAY! On Friday, 27 March 2026, our team visited the CID HQ, and on Tuesday, 31 March, we did a follow-up. And we learn that right now, 60 people are sitting in CID cells—some for over 30 days without a court order. This isn't "procedure"; it’s a violation of human rights. Most heartbreaking? A 14-year-old girl has been locked in a cell since February 28th. Over a month without seeing a judge. A child’s life shouldn't be on "hold" while a file sits on a desk. Justice delayed is justice denied. We call on the DPP and the Law Officers’ Department to act NOW. #JusticeDelayed #HumanRights #CID #SierraLeoneJustice

This morning, the French Charge d'Affaires, Mr Jean Lamy, hosted our chief executive, @amfatoms, for a productive working session at his Diplomatic office in Kingtom, Freetown, Sierra Leone. The discussions focused on deepening our bilateral commitment to human rights, the ongoing concern about civic space in democracy, and advancing social justice across our communities. Partnerships like these are vital to ensuring a future in which every citizen's rights are protected and the rule of law remains our guiding compass. We remain dedicated to working with our international partners to build a more inclusive and just society. #Diplomacy #HumanRights #Democracy #SocialJustice #SierraLeone #InternationalPartnerships

CHRDI Citizens Opinion Poll reveals Sierra Leoneans want a democracy based on accountability, transparency, and unity. 68% reject the PR system, insisting on direct representation. 74% oppose lowering the electoral threshold, emphasising national cohesion. 60% lack civic education to vote on the 2025 Amendment Bill, highlighting the need for informed decisions. The diaspora debate shows a split: 50% support dual citizenship for parliamentary skills, but 44% worry about loyalty. 98% favor fixed election dates for predictability. 82% demand enforceable rights to healthcare and education. 57% criticise the slow Tripartite Steering Committee, calling for action rather than meetings. Follow our official channel for more data analysis on our citizens' opinion poll.

On this International Women's Day, @chrdiorg reaffirms its commitment to a world where gender equality is not just a goal, but a lived reality. We don't just celebrate women; we demand justice for the vulnerable, accountability for duty-bearers, and an end to the systemic barriers that silence female voices. True progress begins when every woman’s human rights are protected and her dignity is non-negotiable. To the trailblazers, the market women, the students, and the silent warriors: Your strength is the backbone of our society. This #InternationalWomensDay,@chrdiorg celebrates your resilience. We remain resolute in our mission to create a safe, equal, and just environment where your potential has no limits. 💜✨"Equality isn't just a basic human right; it's the cornerstone of a thriving nation.” #IWD2026 #WomenEmpowerment #Equality #SierraLeone #CHRDI
