The UAE’s Ambassador to the U.S., Yousef Al Otaiba, warns against ending the war with Iran without fully addressing the threat Tehran poses to the region.
“A simple cease-fire isn’t enough. We need a conclusive outcome that addresses Iran’s full range of threats: nuclear capabilities, missiles, drones, terror proxies, and blockades of international sea lanes,” Al Otaiba wrote in an op-ed to the Wall Street Journal.
“The past three-and-a-half weeks of war have confirmed what we have known for nearly 50 years—Iran’s revolution is a threat to global security and economic stability. We can’t let Iran hold the U.S., the United Arab Emirates, and the global economy hostage.
"Building a fence around the problem and wishing it goes away isn’t the answer. It would simply defer the next crisis,” Al Otaiba said.

It would now seem Qatar’s dozen or so platforms and over 200 wells at its North Field (the twin of South Pars) are now in play. Most of this system is shut down due to the closure of #LNG exports. Additional measures could impact domestic use & pipeline exports. @ColumbiaUEnergy

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. My sources advise me that UAE has put an unofficial limit of $100K to avoid capital flight. Banks will not let you send more than that amount outbound. This shows how serious the situation Iran has created in GCC countries housing US bases. Iran is giving its neighbours a choice. Do not rebuild US bases and understand the new reality, which is that accommodation with Iran is necessary for your economies to function. This war even when it ends will have a long tail.
