10 years ago today I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, aged 32. I thought I might mark this by writing something profound or reflecting on my ongoing treatment. Instead I’ve done some exercise, had a haircut and put some washing on. Delightfully, life goes on.

@InclusionNW It's surreal to look back at the initial messages I sent to friends and colleagues. The prognosis was bleak and I took a 'big bang' approach to telling people what was happening. But I got a lot of support in return. (Washing was safe in the spare room with the dehumidifier)

@MLTim88 Thanks. I don't support more privatisation. I think the key priorities are investment in NHS staff (pay negotiations are a good start but a lot more to do on training and work environments) and a shift to prevention.

@chrisnorris82 That’s a fair comment but my issue is how is more privatisation going to help that? Privatisation has increased from 3% in 2011 to just over 10% in 2024 yet delays are worse. Changes can be made without opening up to more private companies I also wish you well mate, take care

This guy man. To say the NHS “wasn’t there” for his friend because he has stage 4 cancer is an insult to all those treating cancer patients. His idea of reform (privatisation) won’t stop someone with incurable stage 4 cancer from dying and it won’t stop misdiagnosis either.

We made it! 4167m Mount Toubkal, Morocco. After 3 cancelled trips since my original cancer diagnosis (when I also climbed a mountain, I’ve wanted to walk a mountain cancer free since. Lots against me - neuropathy, a Morton’s neuroma, bits of bowel missing BUT… we did it 🩷

This is complete ignorance and textbook Islamophobia from Robert Jenrick. It literally equates every Muslim in the world with extremism. “Allah Hu Akbar” means “God is Great”. It’s a basic Islamic saying that every Muslim in the world says in prayer. It is significantly the opening line of the call to prayer and the opening phrase of every prayer. Billions of us Muslims use it every day as part of our faith within our prayers. It is a common phrase like Christian’s would say "Jesus Christ as your lord and savior". Imagine in this climate, either being that ignorant or deliberately trying to stigmatise all Muslims. Need to see the detail, but I think Rachel Reeves has grounds to be cross. The in-year funding pressures do genuinely appear to be greater than could be discerned from outside. The £9bn contingency ‘reserve’ has seemingly been spent several times over. It’s a mess.

Rachel Reeves says £6.4bn overspend on asylum this year. Huge number. Does genuinely appear to have been unfunded.

Preparation is the key to success.

It was great to chat with @g__j Greg Jackson about @OctopusEnergy's important work supporting the latest clean energy technologies. Both Greg and I want to put families and consumers first as we make the transition from gas boilers to heat pumps, and towards renewable energy.
