On April 6, 1326 the Eastern Roman city of Prousa, modern Bursa, fell to the Ottomans after a prolonged blockade.
It was a major milestone in Ottoman expansion with other more prominent Roman cities like Nicaea in 1331 and Nicomedia in 1337 falling in the years after.

If it wouldn’t be the Ottoman, it was going to be someone else. The truth is Constantinople fell because they were weak. The very fact that it fell proves they were. But there is a special butt hurt because it was conquered by a Muslim nation. But if not, it would probably have been conquered by a Christian nation since Christian nations were conquering each other all the time.

One of the reasons Constantinople fell into decay is because the Ottomans strangled the empire when they were expanding.
Had the Ottomans not existed the empire would have thrived again.
The logic of the Ottomans restoring Constantinople is that of gangsters offering protection to businesses from themselves.

People are afraid of gun violence. If Chicago had security like Tokyo (or even Berlin, Rome, or Toronto), it would have significantly more rational housing and rental markets. Neighborhoods across Chicago have lovely tree-lined streets with gorgeous historic houses and apartment buildings (that a random Brazilian or Italian would interpret as perfectly safe based on pictures), but intolerable violent crime.
