I’m coming to Twitter to complain about the Mets subreddit being dark during one of the most dramatic games ever. That’s how far Twitter has dropped in my esteem. (Also, I support the Reddit mods boycotting the 3rd party app BS. Just sad my community is dispersed right now.)

It's very hard to get hired right now. Having just interviewed dozens of people (out of hundreds of applicants) for one key role, here's what stood out about the top candidates:

A five minute design challenge, if you’re interested: Design a button with the label “Button label” that gives the impression of luxury. Take a screenshot and post it in the replies. It’ll be interesting to see the variety.

@imlindsbradshaw @agathagoz @TaylorLorenz Publicists wear many hats, and one should be educating/guiding clients on how to avoid alienating media. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s a necessary conversation for their own good. They hired you as the expert for a reason!

Publicists, here's how NOT to work with media: I received a cold pitch from a brand I adore. Exciting, as I've been a loyal customer for 4 years and have spent thousands of dollars on their stuff. Was excited to have a point of contact, because I have TWO matching assignments!

Can’t help but laugh at the chaos of the holiday decor in my neighborhood right now. Some people still have their full Halloween graveyards out next to a house with a nativity scene and blow up Santa. Feels like a 2022 metaphor or something

@GergelyOrosz It's great seeing you're aware of the dangers here. FWIW - I think the topic of layoffs is demonstrating the breadth and trust of the online community you've built with your newsletter. I don't follow you for news, I follow for the insights. That's transferable to other topics.

Both my Twitter and newsletter saw far more growth than normal whenever I posted on layoffs. However, these metrics are secondary to me, especially as I observed people start associating me primarily with layoffs. The last thing I want to be referred to is the "TMZ of tech."

Interesting message from a founder: they followed along whenever I shared news on layoffs because they used this news to get ideas on companies to target for hiring (when there's bad news, people are more likely to jump ship). A strategy that is widely used amongst recruiters.
