@HippieReligious Since when did flip flops and shorts become acceptable attire for Mass? It shouldn’t take a sign to tell someone that beach wear is not appropriate in church. Inappropriate attire goes beyond flip flops and shorts but stopping that would be a good start.

@MaykowskiD @HippieReligious You should have pointed that out to your daughter. She’s heard those types of statements before or she wouldn’t have mumbled it. Where is she hearing them? That could have been a wonderful teaching moment!

I saw a large poor family come to mass. They weren’t dressed to impress. They were all smiling though, they just seemed like they were happy to be there. I was amazed by that family, the way they carried themselves, the quiet dignity they maintained. I felt deep shame though, as my eldest daughter mumbled her disapproval under her breath about their outfits. It broke my heart 💔

@PapistMelli That last sentence isn't quite true. Acting on it *sexually* is sinful. Acting on same (or opposite) sex attraction by being good friends with someone you are attracted to may be an occasion of sin, but it isn't sinful in itself.

A parish priest once told me, “there is nothing more annoying for a priest than having a school to deal with.” Father Dwight Longenecker has the exact opposite mentality. He understands that a school is the most powerful way to revitalize a parish. He inherited a school with dwindling enrollment, but flipped it to a classical model with Daily Mass. Every grade is now at full capacity. He also built a beautiful new church with a master plan of the church and school pictured below. We need more stories like the story of Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenville, SC. This is the way.
