@PeterSchiff @ProudSocialist the broad benefits of capitalism can only be enjoyed BECAUSE of government; lose that and it's just private armies and private fiefdoms

@ProudSocialist Capitalism is what provides us with all the things that we have. That's the opposite of theft. It's the government that takes stuff away from us. That's the real theft.

The richest 1% now have as much wealth as the bottom 90% of America combined. This is exactly why the Trump administration is fearmongering about communism. They are trying to make communism the “boogeyman” to deflect from the fact that capitalism is robbing you blind.

The aftermath of Covid introduced new forms golden handcuffs: • The house you don’t really love but has a 2% mortgage rate • The job you want to move up from but lets you be fully remote • The paid off car you’d like to replace but don’t want to pay today’s prices

@kirawontmiss Not saying that it was the smart thing to do, or was morally correct. The kid throwing the punch should've handled it better. But the other kid deserved to get rocked. Pushing his head like that after winning is like kicking a man when he's down.

@NMc1520321 @DrRansom1 @UnfilteredSoccr this is just it; my favorite thing growing up on my select team was the chance we got to play small sided during the end of our practice; practice itself sucked. it's an american mentality, but we can change that with the younger generations

@DrRansom1 @UnfilteredSoccr There lies the issue with American soccer, arranging pick up games. It’s too structured like is a job. You don’t have to force kids to get together to play basketball or football or baseball at parks. Until American kids fall in love with the game it won’t happen.

Landon shares his gripes on pay-to-play in America. “Somebody has to pay for soccer. The problem is, all these youth clubs now are grinding every penny out of every family. I have kids. I can afford to pay for it. My kid has four training jerseys. Why the hell does he need four? They have to use the hotels that our club tells them they have to use because the club’s getting a kickback from it. They have to use the insurance company. They’re traveling to Vegas from San Diego at eight years-old to play a game. This is ridiculous.”

@DrRansom1 @UnfilteredSoccr Getting the right skill level might sometime be a bigger challenge, but i created a FB group in a suburb of a major area that regularly gets 40+ people to play pickup almost over day of the week; I'm sure you can do this at the youth level if you were to put in some basic effort

I paid $35 this morning for a group session for my daughter with a well regarded trainer. At least 30 minutes was the group of 20 or so scrimmaging. Of course kids can get together and scrimmage for free, but how can you every arrange it throughout the suburbs in a major city - getting 10-20 kids of reasonable matching skill level. We were essentially paying for that to be arranged for us... The rest of the world has no problem putting together a pickup game.

@Weareutdpod @DanCollins2011 a mid-fielder scoring 62 goals in 265 appearances by only on ***checks notes*** his actual appearance?!? yeah, that's some major revisionist history probably because of all the stupid Home Depot commercials we were forced to watch over the last month and a half

A guy who won the treble, who played in Manchester United’s greatest ever team under their greatest ever manager, who played for Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG and who dragged his country off the floor to qualify for the World Cup but he only had a career because he was good looking. Unbelievable

I want to scream. I don’t know what to write. I have no idea how words could ever describe what I’m feeling or the shock I’m in. How… how can the funeral of someone who was killed just three hours earlier be targeted? How can a person be targeted even after death? Aren’t funerals sacred in every religion and every human tradition? How can saying goodbye to the dead turn into another massacre? I couldn’t bear looking at the photo. Ten people were walking in the funeral of their friend and relative, and minutes later, they too were among the dead. I can’t comprehend what I saw, and I can’t find any words to explain it. What is happening in Gaza has become beyond human comprehension. These are scenes I don’t think anyone anywhere in the world could ever imagine witnessing, yet they have become part of our daily lives. I’ve been in a state of shock for the past three hours, unable to even write a single sentence. I’m exhausted from writing. I’m exhausted from posting. I’m exhausted from screaming into the void every single day with nothing changing. I’m exhausted from living a life where our only goal is to survive until tomorrow. Were we created just to spend every day trying to escape death? And what breaks my heart even more is this: how has the world watched these scenes and then simply carried on as if nothing happened? How can so much death and so much suffering pass before the world’s eyes without shaking its conscience?

@shawngoloid_ @AlbyDurer @johnarnold i think there is a noticeable difference between the Lexus LX and the Mercedes E Class, but the difference is not nearly as large as the price difference, which makes the Lexus the better value, but the Mercedes people aren't buying just value, as you rightly point out

@claytooine @AlbyDurer @johnarnold well yeah, im not going to rebut you on the seat, but mercedes isnt necessarily a better experience than some lower price luxury. my point was that both are explained more by status signalling than user experience.

So many stories before the World Cup were negative: ticket cost, visas, heat, too many teams, pricey transit, cost to cities, security, ICE... Reality was a nearly perfect 39 days. It showcased America, drew in casual fans, had huge tv ratings, and was seamless. See you in 2038.

@shawngoloid_ @AlbyDurer @johnarnold A Mercedes costs more because it is a different, better product. A reseller charging 2–5x face value for the exact same World Cup seat has improved nothing, it is just capturing scarcity. High resale prices do not create quality; they price ordinary fans out

@AlbyDurer @claytooine @johnarnold well sure, but my point in the anecdote is that this service isnt exactly in acknowledgement to cost. you buy a mercedes not because its particularly better but because its an exclusionary class signal. the actual services within the arena seemed well overpriced and underwhelming

These are not gated communities, just typical suburban neighborhoods with trails running through them. So you could be pushing kids in a stroller along a wooded walking trail and stumble upon a park, your kid points to it excitedly in the stroller, and it’s like, “no, sorry, this empty park isn’t available—the neighborhood Karens have erected a sign”

A lot of neighborhoods in North Texas have playgrounds and I noticed in recent years more of them are putting up threatening signs saying, “For neighborhood resident use only, violators will be prosecuted” Everything is becoming exhaustively exclusive and expensive to access and we wonder why people feel so isolated Btw, I’ve taken my kids to the playground in our neighborhood and we’re typically the only ones there. Every other mom works FT or her kids are in camps

@flameosumeet It’s just one more change that isn’t needed or wanted by anyone. As an institutionalist, I might not be upset but there are already plenty of structural changes being made this time so why like on even silly ones. Respect the institution!

I understand getting upset at the halftime show because it extends halftime by another 15 minutes, takes away from the game, etc. But this? A ring, which embodies the host nation's culture and is given in addition to the medal? What logic is there for being upset at this other than "America bad"?

before seeing "The Odyssey" have to say that, in an alternative universe, Nolan might've cast Cillian Murphy as Odysseus; & good as Matt Damon surely is, Cillian Murphy would have created, in Odysseus, an overwhelmingly tragic, human, humane yet barbaric & "classic" Odysseus that would have astonished. (No: I am not criticizing the film which I have not seen. just daydreaming.)
