📢 Our new paper with @dr_ngombe in Energy Policy shows clear gender disparities in household energy choices in Zambia. Female decision-makers show higher reliance on charcoal (cooking/heating/boiling) & candles (lighting). Male decision-makers have greater access to electricity

@Malik_ZMB The R. Pheonix count down was dominated by Exile's So Lucky and Ku Nvela Ni Mvela for weeks on end! It is better to understand music in time, to understand the evolution of sounds and of audiences. There is a reason Kalabo Hit Parade is a HIT parade or Malo Abwino is timeless!

@Mwenya2019 Comrade, there is something called 'sampling' in the academy. To your point, Aka's grievance and library are not evidence of Kaunda's looting but I do apologise for assuming, without any apparent reason, that we could have a conversation based in evidence. Fare well comrade!

@cleopas_sambo And the people you interviewed were of merit on this issue 🤔? I didn't invite you to this matter but you joined voluntarily with your no evidence screenshot claiming you had a book it on. Unfortunately, there was nothing touching the issue I raised on the screenshot.

It would be interesting to see the evidence of this looting. I have done some significant amount of research on this including UNIPs developmentalism. I have a book chapter on it in an Oxford handbook along side this. The looting argument is not based on any scientific evidence.

We can agree on the grievances of Bulozi: He looted Barotseland, destroyed its economy & brought the kingdom to its knees. He never looted Zambia, he inherited a viable country but his policies, oil & copper prices betrayed him. He was an authoritarian.

@Mwenya2019 🤦🏿‍♂️ Comrade. Arguments must be evaluated on their merits not on the implied authority of proximity to tradionalists. Your instruction to 'visit it' is a curious substitute for citation, generously presuming that l haven't; shifting the evidenciary burden to me. It is yours!

@cleopas_sambo I am not creating stories from nowhere. Among the prominent traditionalists; Kamwi Pelekelo, Prince Mando, Nabi Lubinda, Nyaywa Lubinda, Prince Aka, Mukwae Aongola, Kingmaker Imikendu, Nabi Batuke & many others I have interacted with. Prince Aka has a library in Mongu, visit it.

@ChilumbaKBwalya Well,In his defence, the problem is you are assuming this is a rational argument and using statistics correctly. That is not how we argue on Facebook. Next time please use vibes!

The interesting share compares “GRZ employees as % of total population” without clearly separating: • Total population • Working age population • Labour force • Formal employment • Public sector share of total employment NB. Using total population can distort comparisons 🫣

@LankyObserver Comrade, we have trouble in the knowledge economy. I struggle with this in research methods classes. Ancedotes have their place in narrative yet they are merely that, ancedotes. Unfortunately, if one has an opinion and a platform, then it is shared without recourse to its facts

@cleopas_sambo So everyone who accuses KK of corruption or grandscale looting fails to produce a shred of evidence to back it up. We can like and dislike whomever we please, but we aren't free to allege however, for the simple fact of our dislike of them.

@Mwenya2019 As you might know, academic research involves a variety of sources. My analysis is based on in depth interviews and archival sources & I did it in Zambia, in libraries & with people. Yes. I ve heard of & read what you ask & have interviewed Lozi nationalists. Still NO LOOTING!

@cleopas_sambo Bo Sambo, where did you do your research from? Have you ever interacted with any Barotse Traditionalist before? Have you ever heard of Barotse Native Treasury? Are you aware that most of our history is not yet written? Do you need scientific evidence or documented evidence 🤔?

Prof Muya – the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zambia – finds himself on his own cross. Accountability is inconvenient to those who hold the hammer and nails. And the government demonstrates once again that there is really nothing different about it. Happy Easter comrades!

And when called out, hide behind procedure: ‘We are making a decision...’And so, this Easter, as Christians remember Christ, nailed to a cross for telling uncomfortable truths, the Zambian government has found its lamb, to take the fall for its ineptitude.

Not so long ago, in response to my piece in The Mast on UNZA's problems, the Permanent Secretary – among others – assured us that government does not meddle in the internal functions of the University of Zambia. That lie, dear reader, has now been firmly put to death. In this

@ssishuwa @FMwenge @Jrhills Ha comrade. Why does anyone need academic research if we can just make statements about historically verifiable events based on nostalgia?

@Jrhills @FMwenge It’s historically inaccurate to state that “we never had this type of politicians when we were fighting for independence.” Here is a good example of one who moved from being an anticolonial nationalist to supporting Welensky’s party, even becoming an MP! doi.org/10.1017/S00218…

Zambia: When govts change, many members of the former ruling party move to the one in power. UNIP 👉🏿MMD 👉🏿PF 👉🏿UPND It’s about personal sustenance. If your former party failed, what new ideas are you bringing to the new party that you didn’t share during your party’s time?
