@pollyjhemming Key issue for farmers is carbon sequestration based credits do not provide ongoing income streams. Plus they bring an “embedded in my property” vibe that offers bob-tail income with long-tail risks…..

We probably look at the safeguard mechanism a little bit differently to everyone else, because we see it as a really, really important driver of demand and a very important incentive to get more money back through the farm gate, effectively, for practice change or improvement

@agvocate_au @inaturalist @CitSciOZ @IndustryGovAu @GHCMA Agree. These folks rely on critical pockets of protected refugia (eg spring-fed hiding holes)in the big droughts. Local creek where I grew up lost them after 2006 big dry. Bit by bit we lose these marvels.

These native fish are a our link back to when Au & NZ & Sth America were Gondwana. They're the little dinosaurs. 20 years of data deficiency isn't great. Land use change can bugger up habitat in days/one flood. #citizenscience needs more $$, facilitators & encouragement.
