@AhmedBaba_ You're confusing progressive with a virtue they called colorblind. Star Trek portrayed a world beyond the current biases of the day. Competence and teamwork winning in spite of shocking differences. Starfleet Academy? Subversive to all of this. Its almost Bizzarro-Trek.

Right-wing haters killed something that was objectively amazing. Starfleet Academy had one of the best first seasons of any Trek show. Period. These anti-woke losers would’ve had a stroke at Riker rizzing up non-binary aliens in TNG. Star Trek has always been progressive.

@CaptainJackYT Yes there is a need. When things are going wrong, smashing the means of keeping it on the wrong track is a victory worth celebrating. It does not hurt the franchise as a whole; it will either stop being tarnished or it will course correct. The long term outcome is better.

It is depressing & disappointing seeing people "celebrate" the cancellation of a series. Do people not realise this hurts the franchise as a whole? Yes, you can not like something... but is there a need to continually punch it down?? #StarTrek

@PowerOwn45 @FreeLaw11 I don’t need to indulge, I asked you what has Iran done to you. You said they killed Americans, I asked you when and I also provided a comparison between people killed by Iran vs America. So it’s ok for America to do what they accuse Iran of doing?

We are bombing IRGC targets into the Stone Age and their population cheers each explosion. I hope you understand how rare it is in human history to have a world power focus its might on destroying the infrastructure of evil as its subjects pray for our success . This is not the norm for human history. Recognize the amazing revolution that is possible. Appreciate what is happening because it absolutely affects you. That China seeks to use Iran as another North Korea-type proxy to project its power globally is not a minor detail. The destruction of the largest exporter of Islamic terror on Earth is a big deal. The elimination of people who seek destruction in the name of Islamic end times prophecy is a big deal. Let’s freaking hear it for the good guys. Who cares if the coach is a douche.

@RayVonRichter @learning_yohei As an Englishman, this only confirms why Americans can’t be trusted with the language. There is no such thing as British English. English (from England) is a collection of words from the world based on how those countries pronounced them. The yanks then mispronounce Route 🤣

@learning_yohei It's about which language the word came to English from! If it's a Greek word like those ending in -ize, the British use -ise and Americans use -ize. The brits are wrong on this one. Tbh just always go the American way if you're not British yourself.

@jessiegender Yeah, to subvert the current enmity of the day and show a bright post-problematic future. But instead of saying "what if we lived beyond racism, communism, ableism, and war?" SFA chose its own enemy. "what if we lived beyond straight people? The great majority hates this.

“Starfleet was never a box checking exercise.” Tell that to Gene Roddenberry who went out of his way to make sure a Black woman, a Japanese-American man, a Russian, a disabled man and former enemies like the Klingons were on his bridges.
Skye Maidstone@skyemaidstone

@jessiegender No it was never woke. It was first and foremost Starfleet was a meritocracy. It was never a box checking exercise. Cisco, for example, not even written for a black actor. They just picked the best actor that auditioned. Hence it was actually good.

🇪🇺🇮🇷🇮🇱🇺🇸 Europe just woke up to a nightmare: the Iranian regime now has missiles that can reach every capital in Western Europe. Iran just fired at Diego Garcia — 2,361 miles from Tehran. They weren’t supposed to have that range. Surprise: Iran lied. Tehran to London: 2,750 miles Tehran to Paris: 2,610 miles Tehran to Berlin: 2,200 miles Tehran to Lisbon: 2,485 miles So tell me again how Iran was 'never a threat' and say thank you to the United States and Israel for destroying Iran’s nuclear program and smashing its ballistic missile industry.

@Grummz I disagree. I played fricking DAGGERFALL so don't tell me being lost and unguided is always better. There's no worse example of a great game with extreme navigational difficulty, and I've been here for that and everything in between, and clues are good actually.

If you’re a muslim - enjoy yourself - I wouldn’t raise a finger to harm you for no reason But I’m tired of the ridiculous notion being put out there that we have to respect your faith I’m embarrassed with the fawning displays of some politicians and people pretending it’s charming that you believe in a load of supernatural bullshit written by a bullying psychopath from the mediaeval era What you believe is absolutely stupid Again - I wouldn’t harm you - but I absolutely reserve the freedom and the right to say that your belief system is stupid and nasty and causes real world damage

This is funny: Ofcom is now including a link at the bottom of its press releases to the UK's arguments about jurisdiction over American companies. Conspicuously absent: a link to the First Amendment. When it comes to enforcing things on U.S. soil, Americans get a vote.

You do not honor other cultures by weakening your own. You honor them by standing firmly in what is yours. Shakespeare is not a symbol of domination. He is one of the clearest expressions of what human language can reach at its highest level. His work survived because generation after generation, across cultures, found truth in it. What they are calling decolonising is diluting something rooted, tested, and refined over centuries. This is what happens when a civilization loses confidence in its own inheritance. The idea that Shakespeare being universal is harmful reveals something deeper. It suggests that greatness itself has become suspect. That if something endures across time and place, it must be explained away, not studied. That instinct erases standards. Tradition is not exclusion. It is memory. It is the record of what a civilization discovered was worth preserving. Once you start apologizing for that, you create a vacuum where nothing holds. A culture that cannot defend Shakespeare will not be able to defend anything else that made it.

Americans were more tolerant of European arrogance when the continent had a reputation for cultured sophistication and industrial capability. Any American who remembers the Europe of 20+ years ago has observed the stark decline. And it’s not just because of migrants crowding around the Eiffel Tower. German cars are crap now. Luxury clothing is made with thinner fabrics & the styling is plebeian. French wine is overpriced relative to its quality. There’s no new high art or really any new major cultural or intellectual production coming out of Europe, and the popular culture is not just Americanized, it’s increasingly Africanized. Meanwhile activists are vandalizing art museums and Crown Jewels are being stolen from the Louvre by subsaharans. And all of this is happening as European governments buy energy from Russia while asking America to fund a proxy war against Russia. And yet we hear from European leaders and media the same tones of arrogance and moral superiority as we did back in 2003. The result of all this is that now rather than evoking feelings of annoyance and even a touch of embarrassment, because of the admiration Americans had toward European culture, Americans are now feeling a growing disrespect and even a certain contempt for Europe. It’s not a healthy dynamic, and I’m not at all praising it, but it is born out of European decline and the mismatch in self-estimation Americans are observing between European attitudes and European reality.
eugyppius@eugyppius1

MAGA accounts on here routinely express more hatred, rejection, and vilification of Europeans than they do of their country’s genuine geopolitical rivals and enemies. It’s amazing but true.
