Hilarious bit from @adamconover about how crazy our private car-based transportation system is.

CIRCLE@CivicYouth
New CIRCLE analysis of voter registration in 36 states shows that most states are far behind November 2020 in the number of young people registered to vote. The only states ahead? Nevada, Michigan, Kansas, West Virginia, & Texas. Read the research here: buff.ly/46aiTH4

@steellt78 @IAmChrisStivers @MPFrazer Money in politics is indeed a huge problem. The Supreme Court enshrined that dilemma with Citizens United. But citizens are also too easily bought (duped) into conflating disagreements on tactics with fundamental idealogical differences. We make it too easy.
English

@cmoffett @IAmChrisStivers @MPFrazer No; this doesn’t prove why our politics is broken because the disagreement doesn’t mean there potential compromise nor have I indicated that I wouldn’t compromise for some reform.Politics is broken in large part due to unlimited money supporting extreme candidates who get elected

RARE POLITICAL COMMENTARY:
Because politicians never do anything that's not in their own best interest, we will continue to be at the extremes on immigration.
The left will do everything they can to enable illegal immigration, and the right will go to every extreme to block it completely -- even in cases where people just want a better life but don't have the means.
What NEITHER side will do is find a way to make it more affordable and easier to achieve citizenship for people who genuinely want to pursue the American Dream. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe" means nothing to Washington today. It's all about political posturing, and (because we don't have term limits in Congress) the lack of actual, meaningful change is EXACTLY WHAT POLITICIANS WANT.
It's just like modern medicine and Big Pharma: they aren't in the business of making you WELL, they are in the business of making you FEEL BETTER. A healthy person doesn't buy medication. In the same way, career pols aren't in the business of GETTING THINGS DONE, they are in the business of CREATING THE ILLUSION THAT THEY HAVE YOUR BACK. A happy person is unlikely to go vote.
Not one of them cares about YOU -- they care about getting re-elected. If they can draw a clear line between themselves and their opponents, they speak to the extremes on their own side and lock themselves in to that guaranteed chunk on their side that naively believes the "Us Versus Them" battle is "Right versus Left" rather than "Citizens versus Government". The people in the middle are stuck voting for the least objectionable option. Rinse, repeat.
Remember, there is nothing attractive about being shackled to the job of responsible, honest legislation. It's a thankless job. In fact, the reason we don't have term limits in Congress is because the Founding Fathers thought the job would be so undesirable that people who were elected would do the job out of a sense of duty to their country, then HAPPILY return to their former lives. Their cynicism ended with the defeat of the British, and their idealism blinded them to human nature. It's unfortunate, but it's true.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled sports nonsense.

@DCTrikeMom @DCPoliceDept You want the street, sidewalk? Which is it? Give me a break.
English

Hey @DCPoliceDept Officer Benson of 4D shouted at me repeatedly to get off the sidewalk and then said she would give me a citation next time. I showed her the law on my phone but she said "those aren't the rules we follow." Couple questions... #bikedc

Can't believe Paris found the time and resources to run 180 individually tailored pilot projects and study each of them for 3 years before implemen -- wait what they just did it? 🤯
Jennifer Keesmaat@jen_keesmaat
Paris now has 180 gorgeous ‘school streets.’ They are pedestrianized and landscaped streets around schools - to mitigate crashes, prioritize walking to school, reduce noise and air pollution. No brainer, really.

@Ankaman616 A lot to be mad about with the superficial Fox coverage but you have to wade through the needless personality attacks to get at it in this piece.
