I like history (particularly classical antiquity). I also enjoy music (all kinds) and documentaries (true crime, nature/natural wonders, history).

Notice the legislation does not establish any ‘fund’ and authorizes a civil suit with settlements awarded by the Judiciary, if a claim is successful in court. Whereas, the ‘weaponization fund’ exists only on Executive fiat and an extrajudicial settlement, and explicitly establishes a dedicated fund directly controlled by the Executive. The governance of the fund deliberately circumvents any judicial or legislative authority, such as a civil suit process or congressional authorization via legislation, with all disbursement decisions made by a 5-member commission handpicked by the Acting Attorney General and subject to removal by the President for any reason whatsoever. You’re in a cult of personality and your utter fealty and infallibility bestowed to a politician, and willful ignorance on the facts of the matter, are a danger to the polity of the American Republic. This ‘weaponization fund’ is simply political patronage and should be condemned as such.

Mr. President, completely agree about having a lot of fun over these next seven months.  But nitpicking? Some of your advisors are telling you to support things like:     - Using billions of taxpayer dollars to compensate convicted felons and thugs who attacked police. (Ed Martin)    - Pushing 50-year mortgages and Elizabeth Warren's housing bill over sound conservative housing policy. (Bill Pulte)    - Using taxpayer money to transform publicly traded companies into state-owned enterprises. (Howard Lutnick)    - Firing our very best generals and not holding Putin accountable for his systematic kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of Ukrainian civilians. (Pete Hegseth)  If opposing these things makes me a RINO, then I gladly accept that nickname.  We need Republicans to do well in November, but the stupid stuff is killing our chances!

@JacobRubashkin @AndrewSolender Super PACs have poisoned our political process with the explosion of attack ads. They’ve become the default. We cannot expect a sensible, functional governance process when our electoral process has become a cutthroat, assault system that runs on animosity.

Anatomy of an ad Super PAC hits CA-22 Dem Randy Villegas over "uncovered filings" (standard financial disclosure) that show he "invested 1000s in Wall Street funds backing massive polluters." The funds? $1-15k in a standard mutual fund that's mostly Russell 1000/total intl ETF.

@MHowellTweets Implicit in this is that the Congress is an institution with its own interest, and the EOP is completely circumventing congressional prerogatives. This fund should never exist if not established by the Congress.

@vtbirkenstock @SenThomTillis @kelmej Senatorial ‘fund’ isn’t a dedicated fund, but allows a senator to bring a civil claim. The weaponization fund is purely political patronage with no civil claims process, just a handpicked commission to dole out payments. Complete false equivalence and populist slop. Do better.

The level of the hypocrisy is staggering. Let's not forget last year when the Senate approved a provision for Senators to collect $500,000 in payouts because their phone records were seized without their knowledge.  Now they want to deny the mom and dad who were literally charged/called "domestic terrorists" because they didn't want boys in their daughters bath/dressing rooms.  Didn't you vote for the senate "slush fund@??

Trump: People don’t remember that Thom Tillis, the weak and ineffective Senator from the Great State of North Carolina…didn’t have the courage to fight it out in the Senate, remain in place, and run again for office, a thing he desperately wanted to do. I called him a “Nitpicker,” always fighting against the Republican Party, and ME… HE WAS A QUITTER! Now he can have all the fun he wants for a few months, with some of his RINO friends, screwing the Republican Party.

@ajawsc40 @EWErickson GenX/Boomers, as a demographical cohort, are a cancer on the American polity and society. They exhibit complete fealty or complete disdain, vilify anyone not completely captured by political idolatry, and our Republic is worse off because of it. CNN/Fox ruined their minds.

Bad take. These senators are never going to go along with putting their country ahead of themselves anyway, so throw all the cards now. Show the country you are compassionate about how people’s lives were RUINED by the demoCRAPS AND RINO republicans. People were murdered and other people committed suicide for this. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Let’s say you think this anti-weaponization fund is a good idea. It is a fair argument. But why do it now and not on November 4, 2026? That is the day after the midterm elections. The President could get it all set up and ready to go and wait until after the midterms. Instead, now, Republicans have just one more issue they have to deal with on the campaign trail. It will, like the ballroom, put them on defense. You can’t afford gas and groceries, but the President just created a slush fund to hand your tax dollars over to his political allies. That will be the argument, and it will be a compelling argument, particularly if the January 6 rioters start cashing in after their pardons. Kamala Harris was for they/them, and it turns out Donald Trump is not really for you, unless you’ve shown enough loyalty. The President has played his political hand badly. ewerickson.substack.com/p/cashing-out

Tillis voted for a $500,000 per senator fund for senators who were illegally spied on by the Biden. It wasn’t available to any normal Americans whose rights had been violated—just senators. But now Tillis is mad that actual American citizens might receive restitution. What a clown.

@Acyn Disappointed in the Senate? @RepTimBurchett is scapegoating senatorial aspirations to actually do their job regarding the creation of a fund that circumvented Congress out of cowardice to speak against EOP. He’s incapable of nonpartisan institutional action, thus he’s no senator.

How Trump lost Senate Republicans, w @ShelbyTalcott - His juice is LOW after Cassidy lost and Trump endorsed against Cornyn, per senators and aides - Senate Rs hated the Paxton endorsement and saw the attack on parliamentarian as low blow - Politically, the anti-weaponization fund is "unexplainable. And that's the problem," said Sen. Cramer. McConnell using Dems' words: "slush fund" - Timing for $1.8 B fund was terrible coming before the reconciliation vote ->"This is a delay of the administration’s making," GOP aide says - GOP spent two weeks wrangling over ballroom security before deciding to drop it; the WH indicated to Rs it could threaten to veto a reconciliation that's not to Trump's liking - Grassley told Blanche admin needs to coordinate more with Congress. Meeting w Blanche an "absolutely shitshow," per person briefed - WH official: “No one should be doubting how he’s able to bend everything to his will" - Sen. Lankford on jilted GOP senators: "None of them are punitive enough that they’re not going to do something to poke him in the eye. But they also represent their state.”
