I made the first week of my meditation program The Mindful Developer available for $9 over on Gumroad. I'd like to make it free but there are file size limits for free products. This is a permanent change. gum.co/KYjxv

Tomorrow night I'm getting up at a silly hour of the morning to present at the Liferay Devcon conference. My talk is called Soothing the Fires - Practical Mindfulness Solutions for Staying Mentally Healthy.

I'm in this weird nexus of Twitter of poetry, mindfulness and coding and I think I might need a second account before I start following more of you.

@dvassallo Your diagnosis is pretty much correct. Nature more or less knows what it's doing. The brain is an adaptive mechanism and responds pretty well to what it finds itself in.

I see unhappiness, demotivation, depression, anxiety, procrastination, insomnia, and similar disorders, as signals by our healthy brain to change our unhealthy environment. Sometimes it’s actually an illness, but when uncertain, I give Mother Nature the benefit of the doubt.

I've worked in so many different areas - physics, investment banking, online travel, consumer finance, aged care, property, mindfulness and meditation apps. It's fun, and I hope it will continue to be for a long time yet.

I've had to! Engineering is largely about building a model of a part of the world - the entities in that world and the way they affect each other - and turning that into code. There are intellectual, technical and - importantly - people challenges at every step of the way.

One thing I love about Software Engineering as a career is that I get to learn a lot about how the world works.

Welp. Slack was down earlier today and now the keyboard on my MacBook Pro is not working. First Monday of the New Year is off to a great start I guess, right? 🙃

22 years building software does not make me omniscient, just very, very comfortable with not-knowing.

What's a product you're working on? I'm spending $500 before Black Friday to support independent creators Add your link below and if: 1) It's something I can benefit from 2) It's ideally <$20 (so I can support several creators) I'll buy your product and let you know

@catalinmpit C -> PHP -> ASP -> Java -> C# -> PHP -> Java -> Python. Javascript all the way through, the one constant, for over 20 years!

@RealChrisSean Correct move, in particular if you raised this issue and were not supported. Toxic people destroy workplaces.

I quit my job today. I genuinely love where I work. The CEO and my colleagues are amazing. But I will not allow one bad apple to mistreat me and yell at me as if I’m nothing. As the only developer at the company I gave my 1 day notice 30 min ago.

@catalinmpit Yes, with sufficient experience i.e. getting old :) I've been doing development for 20 years and I can approximate a full-stack developer on a good day.
