I’m currently in Dubai, and here’s what I’m seeing on the ground. I flew from Mumbai via Emirates, and to my surprise, the flight was completely full. Some people argue that this could be due to fewer flights operating, but the reality is clear—people are still traveling to Dubai. It’s far from empty, contrary to what many social media narratives suggest. The contrast becomes visible after landing. The city definitely feels lighter—traffic is down significantly, and tourist presence is visibly lower. I would estimate traffic levels to be down by ~50%. Over the past two days, I’ve been out extensively—malls, restaurants, and meeting friends. Life, quite simply, is normal. We’ve been stepping out late in the evenings, and there is no visible fear among residents. People are going about their routines without hesitation. I visited Mall of the Emirates on Saturday evening, and it was bustling. Not overcrowded like peak tourist season, but certainly not a “ghost town” as often portrayed. Shops were active, some restaurants were full, and people were out enjoying themselves. Yes, expensive brands had less number of shoppers. But, daily coffee shops, Carrefour, Spinney's were super active. Yes, there are fewer people, and shorter wait times—but nothing close to the panic narrative circulating online. Areas closer to the airport, like Mirdif, have experienced more disruption. Residents there reported frequent drone sightings in the initial days, which understandably caused concern. However, even that seems to have normalized over time. In other areas—Downtown Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road—the impact appears minimal. Occasional sirens or alerts do come through on phones as precautionary measures, but normalcy resumes within minutes. I also checked in on the real estate situation. At the higher end—villas above AED 20 million—there are signs of correction, roughly in the 10–20% range. But, deals are not getting closed in this segment as well. However, the mid-market segment (AED 2–5 million) remains relatively stable. Buyers are cautious, but sellers are equally unwilling to cut prices aggressively. It’s a classic wait-and-watch phase. So if someone claims Dubai real estate has crashed 50–60%, I’d say—take that deal immediately. General belief is that tourism will take time to recover, and those dependent on commissions—especially in sectors like real estate—will feel the pressure. Construction activity has almost come to a stand still. Smaller firms with stretched balance sheets and high leverage may struggle. In contrast, larger players with strong financial positions are likely to consolidate further and emerge stronger. Yes, Dubai feels different today—less crowded, less chaotic, and quieter due to fewer tourists. But it is far from being a ghost town. The city is functioning, people are working, and daily life continues. The overall sentiment is simple: cautious, but calm. No panic. @HSVSphere Someone explained to me how I shouldn’t expect the dock to be present like macOS or Windows’ taskbar because Gnome was supposed to be used by keeping every window on a different desktop and you cycle through them with hotkeys. Whoever does that is mentally ill.

That's literally just GNOME btw. Everyone who doesn't work on GNOME hates them, including other Wayland developers. They're the main reason why development is so slow.

Microsoft could snap the ball and chain off its leg and actually adopt Linux as its core. A relatively small company like Valve made their own flavour for their chosen hardware. It would shed the labor of keeping things up to date themselves. It would also free a good portion of macos prisoners.

And the people? 200 nationalities living in the same city. Nobody cares where you’re from. Only what you’re building. People ask me why I came back here after the recent situation. The question should be - why would I leave? There is no better city on earth right now for someone who wants to build, earn, and actually live well. That’s not marketing. Emil, with all due respect - i don't think you have ever stepped a foot in the UAE. There are millions of people from all over the world living ordinary lives with a unique mix of cultures and traditions. I have been to Dawali, Eid, Sahoor, Xmas hosted by a Pakistani friend and i hosted Thanksgiving for people from 10 countries. It's hard to imagine a more accepting multicultural society.

I live in Eindhoven, ASML town. Heard this from folks inside... Over the years ASML promoted a lot of strong EUV people into architect roles, group leads, management tracks. Built up serious layers. Classic growth pain. Then McKinsey comes in , says cut the management layers to speed things up. So now those same high performers, real good EUV experts, who got promoted are the ones on the block. About 3400 roles targeted, mostly management. Half will be reassigned, rest gone. Big hit in Veldhoven/Eindhoven area (~1400), some in US. Unncertainty is high, unions talking, details probably land around April. At the same time, ASML is still planning massive growth. The new campus near the airport just got final green light from city council. Construction starts soon, phased build-out. Long term they talk ~20,000 new jobs in the region (first wave ~5k by 2028). And the layoff packages are subpar. Philips is also based in the same town. And they had layoffs due to serious financial issues last year. Their layoff packages were much better than what ASML is offering. What a way to kill tje company culture. Especially at a time when the company is printing money.
