@ZachHicks2 @ColtsFilmRoom When Pierce wants to know who his QB is. I’d guess that’s more than a 1yr deal. So in that light either tag doesn’t matter. Cant overpay on a long term deal to a QB coming off major injury. So let’s see if any other teams step up.

Wouldn’t the same people critiquing the Colts for tagging Jones over Pierce be the first to criticize them if they tagged Pierce and then overpaid for Jones coming off an Achilles?
Transition-tagging Jones prevents that (which is more important to the Colts’ future, imo.)

I think an issue here though is while there's stability in having the same QB two years in a row Jones is coming off a torn right Achilles and that makes it hard to view the situation as stable for 2026

The Colts did this to themselves. They don’t have a viable backup plan if DJ were to leave in free agency, which is why I think he still has a decent amount of leverage.
The Colts never intended for RL or AR (who wants out) to start in 2026. It’s DJ or nothing. Also, no 1R pick.
