@jonburkeUK Lived over there and it’s a lovely way of life cycling everywhere. Nowhere was more than a 20 minute cycle away when living in Amsterdam.

The reason there will be no ‘fuel crisis’ in the Netherlands is that every town, city, & village in the land is connected by fully-segregated cycle lanes. It’s possible for the Dutch to simply stop driving while fuel is short and prices are high. That’s real energy resilience.

Economically, smoking bans are most absurd because they will disproportionally hurt independent and traditional newsagents and local shopkeepers. But there is no way any government can implement a ban - see current success rates for controlling cocaine and hard drug flows in any country planning such a ban. So the legitimate shopkeeper will go bust while the blackmarket dealers will prosper.

@MutedIrish We can just look at Canada. They saw population decline in the last half of last year because they reduced visa offers and extensions. So people started leaving once their visas are up Most immigrants do go home. They're here to make money/study. Some don't ofc but it's not all

I would argue the obvious reason Indian immigration is encouraged is they're productive, high earning and low crime immigrants from a country that's growing rapidly and will be a world superpower in 30 years Even if you disagree with the rate the reason makes sense
