During Covid I supported the £billions spent on Test, Track and Trace because it was supposed to future proof us. The diagnostic, manufacturing and production facilities were supposed to enable a fast roll out of tests and/or vaccines for any future pandemic and there will be one. The fact we have a shortage of Men B vaccine and there appears to be no real rush to scale it up and offer a vaccination to all young adults is, frankly, hugely disappointing. What happened to all that capacity???

@jonathan_g72 @OlooneyJohn @wesstreeting The first line of immediate defence in preventative treatment is antibiotics. Of course if you would prefer you or your loved ones to wait and see if they develop Meningitis, which can kill in 24 hours, that’s fine

@DrNeilStone The anti vax, anti medicine lot are out again. Are they looking to expand their natural healing businesses instead? Or reduce the population for environmental reasons? I’m joking, but these people are a danger to public health and safety.

Absolute nonsense Ciprofloxacin is used to help prevent the spread of the bacteria causing a meningitis outbreak in the UK It does have potential side effects, but usually with long courses, but a single dose is safe...and a hell of a lot better than getting meningitis

@CleveresV @A1an_M @DrSimonsTravels My teenage grandchildren got MenACWY but as MenB has only been given to babies from 2015 they haven’t had that (they are 18 and 21 respectively). My younger grandchildren have had MenB but as your paediatrician advises the effect wanes over time.

@cookhamcockapoo @A1an_M @DrSimonsTravels Yes, absolutely. I've spoken to our pediatrician this Monday. Our children are vaxxed twice against MenB, but if they were to travel to a region with a high incidence (like the UK) he would recommend a booster. (I'm from Germany, btw) Our children will get MenACWY in April.

Meningitis is one a few diseases where your child can be well in the morning and dead by the evening And if you’d ever seen it happen, you wouldn’t be debating whether to vaccinate or not Tragic and horrifying

@CleveresV @A1an_M @DrSimonsTravels It is and the symptoms could, in the early stages be just the start of a simple virus. Yet again we have people debating vaccination. I understand their anxieties, no medication is 100% safe or effective but at least little babies and toddlers have the chance of some protection.

Been busy so a bit tardy on this but I’m absolutely appalled at this vote. It’s murder, plain and simple, if near birth. What are they on, can someone please make sense of this?

@A1an_M @CleveresV @DrSimonsTravels It’s beyond helpless it’s far worse than that. You know what it will mean if that test comes back bacterial, you know how serious it is because the consultant is called immediately. My daughter is a nurse which is why she picked it up so quickly.

@A1an_M @CleveresV @DrSimonsTravels My grandson had meningitis when he was a few months old. He had to have a lumbar puncture, the screams were awful, my poor daughter wept as she tried to breast feed him. We were all given antibiotics, thankfully his meningitis was confirmed viral. Believe me it’s terrifying.

@CleveresV @DrSimonsTravels I understand that. I have two children. I would rush my children to hospital as soon as I saw symptoms. Every new parent is warned about the rash that doesn't go away when pressed. But that's a separate issue to the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

@DPJHodges Worse than that, they don’t care what we think. They know they are lying, we know they are lying but there is very little we can do. So they simply don’t care.
