Guys I know I'm preaching to the choir & most of you already canvass pretty regularly but for those who do not, you really gotta get out there and start canvassing regularly for our NYC DSA candidates. I feel like the number of field leads is great but we need more canvassers.

Frederick Wiseman changed the way we see the world.

From the classrooms of High School to the corridors of Hospital, he turned his camera on the institutions that shape us — inviting us to look closer, sit longer & confront truth with empathy.

May his memory be a blessing.

You are one of the dumbest people on earth, my district is literally a majority white district. Your conspiracy theories are laughable and should have no place in a society that cares about facts.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

This has been happening for years. Ilhan Omar is the most obvious example. A large number of relatively recently arrived Somalis will elect only a Somali to Congress in that Minnesota district. This is much more subtle, but just as bad, in many other parts of America.

Nothing says “we are reasonable stewards of housing” quite like Landlords and Friends™ launching a full-scale pile-on against a tenant advocate. If your public image problem is that people think you’re cruel and exploitative, bullying Cea Weaver, one of the most well-regarded tenant advocates in the country, is an interesting strategy.

Some people, mostly outside NYC, seem confused. NYC-DSA isn’t debating who’s good or bad. We’re deciding where to spend our time & money: The biggest slate of state candidates we’ve EVER run, who can help pass Zohran’s agenda, or the most expensive Congressional primary possible
Always Be Primarying🌹@ideologicalized

Leftists pretending that the reason some in NYCDSA dont want to endorse Chi is because we are fine with Jeffries are in incredibly bad faith and they know it. A total strawman argument.

At first I was bummed Zohran and AOC opposed Osse’s challenge of Jeffries (It’s a direct parallel to AOC taking out Crowley) but the more I learn about him the more I understand their side. Ossé is an opportunist – he joined DSA in October after previously dismissing DSA…
Dan Mannarino@DanMannarino

NEW: @ZohranKMamdani tells me in an exclusive sit down its "not the right time" for @OsseChi to challenge @RepJeffries. "I think that right now is not the time to be engaging in that kind of a primary." He does not weigh on @bradlander potentially challenging @danielsgoldman

I’ve said versions of this before, and I think I need to sit down and write a real argument soon, but to reiterate for now: The American left is righteously indignant that people like Mamdani aren’t waging the struggle for Palestinian liberation *our* way. Which is insane, because our way failed. We completely shit the bed. When it was obvious to all of us on the left, shortly after Oct 7th, 2023, that Israel was moving to enact a scorched-earth genocide of Gaza, we found ourselves utterly unable to do anything about it. Not one fucking thing. It’s been 2 years and we haven’t even slowed down the sale of US arms. We utterly, totally failed. That alone is infuriating. We should all be looking at ourselves, our organizations, our theories, and our models of praxis and be ready to throw them all out. Everything except the moral compass should be on the chopping block. Ruthless criticism of all things starts with ourselves, and our politics. If we knew how to advocate correctly for Palestinian liberation, if we had the correct playbook, then why have we been flapping our gums to useless effect for two years? Why were we utterly unprepared and unable to respond in the first place? Why did we let things get so bad? Yes, public opinion is finally, belatedly turning, but almost entirely because social media lets people see the videos recorded by Gazan journalists and civilians themselves. The American left flatters itself far too much to think we’ve had much to do with this sea change. We’ve been doing the same shit we’ve been doing for 40 years and it has added up to little more than the ability to be smugly “correct” while children starve and hospitals burn. We use the correct words, we know the correct history, we have the correct slogans—we tell The Truth, never mind whether anyone listens. Never mind whether it has any force. The genocide in Gaza is an event that totally destroyed any residual trust I had in the left’s received wisdom about how to do politics. We clearly have no fucking idea what we’re doing, and we need to shape up fast. I am so tired of being asked to console myself with moral superiority while I watch the world burn. It’s not good enough. Hammering Mamdani or anyone else for doing politics “the wrong way” (according to our leftist received wisdom) doesn’t put food in the hands of children in Gaza. It doesn’t do anything at all, actually, except burnish your credentials with other leftists on the internet, and provide the catharsis that lets you ignore, for a moment, how utterly fucked and powerless we are. That catharsis is a trap. You pour your anger onto someone like Mamdani and feel, for a moment, like you’re doing something, when you know damn well we aren’t. And we haven’t been, for a very long time. Save your anger for people who actually hold opposing values and goals, and for god’s sake have a little humility about prescribing the same old shit leftists have been doing in America for 80 years. To what effect? To what end? To watch Gaza burn? Someday, we will either acknowledge we have been doing things wrong and change course, or we’ll enter a deeper barbarism than any of us have yet lived through. I hope we decide our pride is less important than our liberation—but thus far I’m not optimistic.

So much disinformation on this site tonight in the wake of the horrific Kirk murder, with conservatives cynically suggesting that all of the political violence in this country comes from the left. In fact it’s the opposite. Here are the facts for those with short memories: The man who targeted and killed Democratic state Rep Melissa Hortman was a Trump supporter. The man who targeted the home of Dem Governor Josh Shapiro was a Trump supporter. The men who wanted to hang Mike Pence on Jan 6th were Trump supporters. The man who targeted and killed the son of Obama-appointed District Judge Esther Salas was a Trump supporter. The man who tried to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and assaulted her husband was a Trump supporter. The men who were convicted trying to kidnap Dem Governor Gretchen Whitmer were Trump supporters. The man who sent pipe bombs to the homes of Obama and Biden was a Trump supporter. There is no equivalent or even similar list of Obama or Biden supporters who have carried out similar murders, attempted murders, or violent attacks.

Andrew Cuomo couldn’t allow his first, tepid recognition of reality — that the Israeli government, with the full support of the Trump administration, is starving the people of Gaza — last more than a few hours without walking it back. This is someone who believes in nothing.

It’s so obscene that we have to even entertain the idea that jews who’re being racist towards Zohran are only doing so out of some legitimate fear that is rooted in the historical violence of antisemitism, and not because they’re virulently racist. Just like any other racist.
