PLAYERS: The next time you get annoyed that your coach holds you accountable for your effort and attitude, asking you to bring your very best in practice and in games day after day, ask yourself this: Would you rather play for a coach that doesn’t care? ~ from @PureIntensityBB

Coaches: Teach players to perform at the highest level of their ability. Don’t let them get away with mediocrity. Lowering your standards because they don’t want to raise theirs is detrimental all the way around. Teamwork & performance will suffer. Hold them to high standards!

Coaches: do you realize how BIG your job is? Everyone sees the success, and competitiveness. They don’t see the other 99% of job: crisis management, practice prep, fundraising, phone calls/texts at ANY time, sleepless nights, second guessing, it goes on. You work HARD

@5NEWSAndrew And a shot clock only allows a good coach more ability to control tempo/possessions. Just look at Virginia. Team on defense here needs to come out and guard

We NEED a shot clock in high school basketball NOW. This just went on for 2.5 minutes of game time. Absurd.

@5NEWSAndrew shot clock does not lead to better basketball,, just quicker shots and less offensive creativity. HS is not the NBA where every athlete is extremely skilled. You'll see worse basketball, not better

Players: Entitlement isn’t attractive. You appear entitled if you think coaches should: Lower their standards Accept laziness & mediocrity Give you what U haven’t earned Reward you for simply showing up Accept your excuses Treat U differently than your peers Put your wants 1st

I have 3 degrees including my MBA. I would never tell a doctor how to perform surgery. Yet people with little to no basketball experience try to tell coaches how to coach.

To win consistently in team sports, you don't need the best collection of talent - you need the best team. And the best teams are filled with engaged kids who understand that for the good of the team beats for the good of themselves.

Coaches: It’s impossible to make 100% of people happy 100% of the time. Don’t waste time on it. Figure out what makes your team be at its best & concentrate on that. You know which players have great effort, attitudes, toughness & can help your team WIN. That’s where you focus.

The HS coaches that are involved with their youth and are willing to help their players get in the gym on their own consistently have the best programs. HS coaches get paid 4 months out of the year, but most are doing things to help their program year around. Much respect! 💯

Holding someone accountable is not something you do TO them; it’s something you do FOR them. Holding someone is accountable is a form of love; it shows them you truly care because you hold them to a high standard of excellence. Accountability is the foundation of a winning team.
