@emzanotti I know my Bible very well, and even I heard a double entendre by the pastor there. This is why it’s dangerous for him to say it. He needed to - as a man of God - be more circumspect with his words. After all, that is a virtue even the book of James praises.

Look, Pete Hegseth’s pastor is a dipshit but we’re all crucified with Christ, and in it we have a death to self, which is what he’s talking about. You’d think Bible Genius James Talarico would have, you know, read Galatians at some point.
Jennifer Bendery@jbendery

New: Pete Hegseth’s pastor and close spiritual advisor says he wants Texas Democratic state Rep. James Talarico to die. “We want him crucified with Christ,” Brooks Potteiger said of Talarico, as the podcast host said he prays “that God kills him.” huffpost.com/entry/pete-heg…

I never said we should have the freedom to do whatever we want. The rule of law gives checks and balances even on citizens. BUT, that does not mean our government can override our rights when it wants. Due process is there for a reason. 200 plus years of jurisprudence also helps balance the friction between rights and law. ICE can enforce laws, but must do so only if it doesn’t violate the constitution, our supreme law. Thus, arrest or hold people like everyone else does, but then take them to court for trial like everyone. Thats the rule of law. The complaint in Minneapolis was they ignored that crucial last step, or they ignored rules governing deadly force, and they had a disregard for the constituent it was pointed out. When they refuse to abide by the sane rules every other law enforcement agency does, it’s a problem.

@corpsole2 @Glenn007 @pentamom65 @joelpollak A. None of us have, or should have, the “freedom” to do whatever we want. We all have restrictions on us. Lincoln also believed in respecting the laws of the land. B. To a degree, yes.

Republicans may well break the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act this week, because the Democrats' shutdown of TSA, in wartime, suggests that their party does not actually adhere to any boundaries, and better to repair the voting system before Democrats change it, which they will.

Once you start trading there’s no going back. your perception of money changes because you’re no longer exchanging time for money. You realise making $100 isn’t actually as hard as you once thought. And spending an hour to make $15–$20 just doesn’t make sense anymore. This is a skill for life, you just have to learn it properly.

Ok, you’re assuming the world is headed to more self learning? I’d still advise a degree as extra insurance or padding. Despite weakening degree requirements, you want to have as much of an advantage as possible. Like, CalTech still feeds into Silicon Valley and gives you a real head start. Plus, college allows outside feedback and accountability in a way YouTube and AI do not.

Sometimes it’s not as clear cut as all that. My folks were low income and supported nine kids using a combo of food stamps, Medicaid, big tax refunds every year. Yet we also lived in a rent free house owned by my grandparents, and mom’s grandparents paid for private education and college. It’s not all what’s on a person’s bottom line. They could “afford” it because they may have help. People’s financial lives are not straightforward.

At my local liberal elite coffee shop a millennial woman is in tears because she can’t afford private school tuition. She’s on speakerphone so everyone hears. She qualifies for food stamps. She is an immigrant and a lesbian. Everyone is waiting for her to get off the phone to console her. OK. BUT… she just spent $3,000 on airline tickets for a vacation and booked $400 meal one of the nights. And summer camp for her kids while she goes. Every millennial I know is absolutely addicted to travel to foreign nations. WTF. They talk about it like it’s a human right. Why the F can’t she put her kids into her Subaru and drive them to Florida like a normal person? Or the thousands of great coastal vacation spots between Bar Harbor Maine and Key West. Why is nobody suggesting this to her? And it’s not just her. My millennial friends who have money are constantly jumping on planes overseas. Like if they go more than two months without travel they start freaking out. I’m generation x. I don’t get it. Someone please explain this to me in crayons. I mean I love traveling too but holy crap does it get expensive fast. Are these people all just in crazy debt?

@johnkonrad How does someone who's spending that kind of coin on vacations and summer camps qualify for food stamps? I bet she doesn't see the disconnect there. People are addicted -- and feel entitled -- to handouts. It doesn't bode well for our fiscal situation.

Then arrest them and have ICE prove it in court. Instead, ICE has ignored federal courts on numerous occasions in MN and elsewhere. Labeling someone an agitator is not a legal standard, and does not give anyone a right to violate rights. “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law…”

Your reading comprehension is lacking. The agitators are the ones who are abusing their rights. They have the right to PEACEFULLY assemble and protest the actions of the (federal/state/municipal) government. They do not have the right to interfere, stalk, dox, block them in traffic, etc.

That’s exactly the line the Constitution was written to prevent. Once we accept that innocent people can be mistreated ‘for the greater good,’ there’s no limiting principle left on government power. You’re describing an authoritarian system( not one based on rights and the rule of law.

I am an American, and that’s exactly why I won’t accept the idea that the government can violate rights as long as it’s enforcing the law. It’s my right to question it, as it’s your right to take the opposite view. And where in our constitution and laws does it mention “abusing our rights?” Americans are sovereign in their rights under the constitution bounded by law. If we start treating rights as something that can be overridden for convenience, they stop being rights at all.

MN got what it deserved. The "leaders" allowed the insurrection and crime. They paid the agitators to make sure ICE was hampered. If you were an American, you'd be siding with the people who are working to uphold the actual law. Not the people who are purposefully abusing their own rights. Yes, sometimes mistakes are made. And they're made BECAUSE of the leftist protestors. If they weren't abusing their own rights, ICE would have to worry about policing them as well as arresting the illegal aliens that you all seem to love. MIN got what it deserved. Deal with it.

President Trump can't just leave NATO. I don't know why I keep seeing this comment from the left and MAGA. To leave NATO it will require a vote from Congress. There is a Super Majority of pro NATO in Congress. We are not leaving because they said no to Trump.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. That’s what we have checks and balances on both government and citizens alike. That’s why they swear an oath to the constitution so that they are held accountable to enforce the rule of law under the constitution. A constitution imperfect, but designed to help us strive for a more perfect union.

@corpsole2 @maylivesforever @joelpollak I think you're missing something if you think the small number of violations that are currently happening are out of line with the level of mistakes/malfeasance that has always happened when imperfect (and sometimes very bad) people enforce laws.

But you’re not considering that - for the most part for 200 odd years - we have managed to enforce our laws using due process and the courts and legal system. We can enforce laws without resorting to violating another’s rights. It’s not one side vs another. Making sure we balance the rights of law abiding citizens while also ensuring the right of a fair trial and all other rights in the Bill of Rights is what made us great.

@corpsole2 @maylivesforever @joelpollak You're only looking at one side. The rights of law-abiding citizens are violated when laws aren't enforced. You can't just say "we'll just let these laws slide to avoid any possibility of violating anyone's rights."
