“When you allow your children to grow up it’s a direct, direct reflection of your parenting. If you hover over them all the time and they can’t work through problems, they’re going to have some issues. You’ve got to let them work through problems because they’re working through the things you’ve instilled in them,” Dawn Staley Let them learn.

This is a HEAVY quote here that many people need to hear “If you disappear on a guy when he makes a mistake, I’m not so sure that’s a genuine relationship you built” Let this sink in

The things you notice after… 28 basketball games in the last four days: The most out-of-control people in the gym aren’t the players… It’s the adults in the stands. 😢 It’s alarming. It’s deafening. It’s saddening. Kids deserve better from the people who are supposed to be setting the example. 🏀 #weeklywisdom

Negative people don't make teams better. Negative people don't make relationships better. Negative people don't make organizations better. Negative people don't make the world better. If you want to make things better, show up with hope, purpose, positivity. You control you.

People think positivity is weak. They don’t realize how strong and courageous you have to be to overcome the negativity in the world. I admire those who stay positive in the face of critics and negativity.

Coach Schaefer responded to the backlash for calling out his team after the Vanderbilt loss on Thursday: "Before you go criticizing them on social media you come walk in their shoes...I've basically had my legs cut out from under me on so many things with today's world and how college athletics is, but I will not give in to teaching these kids accountability, responsibility. That's my job. That comes with the territory of being the head coach at Texas, Tennessee, and you know what, should be anywhere, but a lot of people won't do it because they're worried about their paycheck" #HookEm | #Texas

I locked the classroom door and turned to twenty five high school seniors, the Class of 2026. They were supposed to be the digital generation, confident and plugged in. Instead, staring back at me under the glow of hidden phones, they just looked tired. I asked them to turn their phones off. Not silent. Off. On my desk sat an old olive green military rucksack that belonged to my father. For weeks they ignored it, assuming it was just junk. They didn’t know it was the heaviest thing in the building. I dragged it to the center of the room. Thud. I told them we weren’t doing the Constitution that day. I handed out blank index cards with three rules. No names. Total honesty. Write down the heaviest thing you are carrying. At first, no one moved. Then Sarah, straight A student, perfect everything, started writing. Then Marcus, the football captain, hunched over his card and wrote just three words. One by one, they folded their cards and dropped them into the bag. I zipped it shut and told them this bag was who they really were. Then I began to read. A father pretending to go to work after losing his job. A student carrying Narcan for their mom. A kid mapping exits everywhere. A teen trapped between parents screaming about politics. A girl with thousands of followers crying alone at night. Then the last card. I don’t want to be here anymore. I’m just waiting for a sign to stay. Marcus was crying openly. Sarah was holding the hand of a boy who usually sat alone. The cliques were gone. They were just kids carrying too much. I told them the bag would stay in the room so they wouldn’t have to carry it alone anymore. When the bell rang, no one rushed out. Every student stopped and touched the rucksack on the way out. I see you. That night, a parent emailed me. Their son hugged them for the first time in years and asked for help. Everyone you pass is carrying something you can’t see. Be kind. Be curious. Ask the people you love what they’re carrying. You might save a life.

Players…it’s a great day to watch film of yourself. What you do on every offensive and defensive possession. Not just from a skills perspective but what did you see\not see? How soon\or late did you see it? Do this in the half court and in transition. You got this! 💪🏾

Year round single sport specialization benefits the adults who can make money off of it at the expense of the child’s development.
maurice pearl@mpearl88

@JJWatt But all of these "high level" teams are now requiring year round participation, or the cost of playing the sport is too high to do anything else. At the same time, rec leagues are dying I do completely agree with you tho, I see it daily. Those generalist are healthier and better

Just my 2 cents: College Sports isn’t where this epidemic started. Did you sign your 6 year-old up for travel sports? 4 different teams in the last year or 2? Did you quit Little League & your School’s rec team to travel to Texas & Florida at age 9. Is every weekend at the Travelodge with your kids numbered sweatshirt on at 8am, blaring some premade, walk up song montage. Did you move your kid to a new school that you don’t even live in multiple times in their high school career?chasing the, it’s so much better there mindset, because the friends parents talked you into it and your excuses was, just wanna be part of winners. Did you have a meeting to get the volunteer parent coach fired or the school’s admin coach fired because he/she didn’t play your kid? Did you pay a personal trainer thousands of dollars all to watch your kid get burned out and tell you this sucks I just wanna play video games? Do you run your kids, social media, YouTube and NIL-potential so that you can market the next big star. Folks, we’re all guilty of wanting something better but stop acting and blaming college sports. That ain’t the problem here. This happens way before they get to college. How much money does it take to buy you or your family? Did you fall for the ole… Better Join the, “ Select”, “Elite”, “Top”, “Premier” Team sales pitch? Only to figure out you just ended up funding the scholarships for the A-Team . ADULTS, kids learn from Adults, they are taught & influenced by Adults. The Great “Coach Baird” always called us Kids, because that’s what we were, immature, impressionable Kids. Loyalty, commitment, integrity, and honesty is taught at the foundation, start there and we fix the issue. I Bleed 💜💛 forever, & I”ll leave you with the legendary “Coach Hart” quote… “Move The Drill, 5 yards Up” GO DAWGS! ☔️

If you start the movie "Hoosiers" at 10:07 p.m. and 48 seconds on New Year's Eve, you'll ring in 2026 just as Jimmy Chitwood hits the winning shot. No need to thank me.

The 10 Truths Parents Rarely See 1. Coaches lose sleep. 2. Decisions aren’t personal. 3. Playing time is complex. 4. Culture matters more than stats. 5. Accountability is care. 6. Coaches invest emotionally. 7. Development isn’t instant. 8. Hard feedback is intentional. 9. Wins don’t tell the whole story. 10. Coaches remember kids forever. Perspective matters.

Coaches If you aren’t practicing tough and taxing things in practice like; -Block outs -Transition Defense and rebounding in transition - Weakside defensive situations and scrimmaging - defensive rotations -live offensive rebounding It won’t “magically “ happen in Games.
