At the 81st Venice International Film Festival, the documentary "Russians at War" by Russian director Anastasia Trofimova was officially presented. This film is a pure example of Russian propaganda. Actually, the director used to work for Russia Today. The Ukrainian documentary "Songs of Slow Burning Earth" by Olha Zhurba was also presented in Venice. In Ukraine, the screening of a Russian film at such a respected festival raised a lot of questions. I don't know exactly how the films are selected and what the honorable committee is guided by. I hope that this was not an attempt to say that "not everything is so clear with the Russian-Ukrainian war" and that "both sides have their own truth"? Because then it will look very cynical. This is not giving the occupiers a chance to repent, but giving them the opportunity to lie and mock the victims while missiles are flying above the heads of Ukrainians. This is giving the floor to Russian propaganda. And this raises many questions. Have you seen any official explanations from @la_Biennale about the presence of this "film" in the program? labiennale.org/en/cinema/2024…
